The Curse of Sotkari Ta: A Romantic Space Opera

This is a good sci-fi read that puts you in with the aliens right from the get-go. Maria is a wonderfully complex protagonist. I like the twists that the journey takes you on. I gave it a 4 because some things were too convenient without enough due cause built in, and a few conversations had forced switches and info dumps that didn't seem natural. However, I enjoyed the book overall and will read the sequel when it comes out! Definitely worth a read!

Right there with Ursula Le Guin, David Brin or C. J. Boyle, Maria Perez takes us on an exciting adventure with attaching companions, through war and survival, in magnificent worlds. the hero, Mina, is kidnapped from Earth by ruthless aliens who want to exploit abilities implanted in her DNA without her knowledge by another race. A normal mom and wife at home, she discovers in herself a level of courage, empathy and strength she did not know she possessed. Against all adversities, she retains the honesty and kindness that gains her the support of the people she meets, and a ruthlessness that does not compromise her faith and dignity. I want to see where Maria Perez' imagination will take us next and cannot wait for the next episode in Mina's odyssey.

Maria's novel is truly a work of art! I really enjoyed her ability to "transport" her readers to the scene, with such intricate, beautiful detail. The character development of Mina and Montor are incredible as well. What a great mixture of adventure and romance!

A quick read (in a good way); very easy to get into. Enjoyable and fun.

Sotkari Ta would normally get knocked down a star because it has a cliffhanger.I love world building, character building and women characters with agency. Relationships that take work. As what I assume will be the MCs for the series gather together with a common purpose at the end of the book, Ms Perez makes me care what happens to all of the MCs. Male and female.A special commendation for excellent proof-reading!

I must admit, a bit too much romance for my liking but that's just down to personal preference. That being said, it's a fantastic world. Maria has done an awesome job with the world building and it was fun to travel with the characters through space and planets. I look forward to seeing what's in store for them in Book 2.

I did not know what to expectwhen I began reading it. I waspleasantly surprised and thoroughlyenjoyed Mina's adventure frombeginning to end.

This was my favorite book of the year by far. We follow Mina the main character in her new adventure when she's kidnapped from Earth by the cruel Lostai. Without knowing, she possesses special abilities in her DNA. You can feel connected with the character in her thoughts and struggles, Mina is very relatable and we can identify ourselves in her reactions at this new situation she's living in.There are also great secondary characters throughout the book, Maria Perez has a great ability to create new, engaging worlds and alien races, each of them is unique in its own way. The story is fast-paced and engaging definitely worth following up Mina's adventures!
