An insightfully funny voice of the 1970s ... and still funny now!
While younger people might not get many of the references in this classic early 1970s comedy album, they may still find it funny, simply for Robert Klein's wonderful delivery & energy. But for anyone of the right generation (i.e., mine), this is a trip back in time that's even funnier several decades after the fact. Klein accurately touches on all the little background cultural details & detritus that had become part of us as we grow up; and while he can be sharply satiric, there's also a certain real affection there as well. For me, there's also a bittersweet nostalgia in hearing all of this again, both for the realization of how much of it will soon be lost to time, and the sadness that Klein was never recognized as an important cultural figure of the time. Yet he still appears in films today as an excellent actor, and his wit is as keen as ever. This early album demonstrates why he mattered in the 1970s … and for me, still does. And as for those younger people? You might listen just to understand what shaped your parents -- or by now, your grandparents -- a little better. Maybe think about how your cultural touchstones will fade in time as well. And maybe even to laugh out loud at a fine comedic talent with an unblinking eye on his times. Recommended!

BBA (Before Big Al)
I am currently reading Bob Klein's autobiography *the Amorous Busboy of Decatur Avenue: A Child of the Fifties Looks Back* (ABB) during the course of which I decided to pick up this CD. The *Child* CD brings back memories of under-your-desk-diving Civil Defense drills of the 1950's and other not-quite-Kodak moments of our lives. The 20 years after book, like the man, is a more developed and seasoned fruition. You could just skip this unformed and abridged *Child* Klein and proceed directly to ABB on CD, but then you would miss the groovy Akroydian looking young Klein on the case cover. The routines on this *Child* CD were compiled in 1973 - long before Klein-as-Big Al started selling stuff on the TV sudser *Sisters.* If the Powers That Release are reading this, wouldya please release *Sisters* on DVD?! /TundraVision, Amazon Reviewer

One of the best comedy albums of all time
Robert Klein is simply one of the all time great stand-up comics. For me, this was his early masterpiece. I first purchased this in album form back in the 70's. My favorite bit on the album is 'Substitute Teacher', which could possibly be broken down into multiple separate comedy bits on stage. A true inspiration to any aspiring comic, I'm glad he's still with us. Delivery was prompt, I received the cd in perfect condition - great service. Thanks!

Robert in the Fifties
This is a very funny album in which Robert remineces about the fifties at least for the most part.He remineceses about being a kid in the fifties being in school during that time going to publicschool school lunches and lunch ladies old tv shows commercials and other things. Its a good album and youll find yourself rolling on the floor laughing just like I did. You should get it.
