Oh Wow...Maybe Spoilers!!!!
Oh wow, I loved this. It was so good. The synopsis is VERY misleading though. She was badly mistreated, such as beaten for not obeying, starved, and isolated, but she was not tortured or anything as dramatic as that. She was very independent in a nation where that is not welcomed for the women. The heroine was a servant to her family and they disliked her because of how she was raised as an American, but she still has her defiance and is still stubborn and feisty. She never lost any of that. I do love the hero as well. They were a great match. He was so considerate of her needs and wants. He genuinely wanted to please her in any way he could. You could tell he fell hard even before it was mentioned and he is not a hero who fought the feelings at all. They were terrific and I am not sure why is got so many low stars. I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to how a hero should act (strong yet sweet) and a heroine should be (fun, strong but not overpowering the hero) along with them being faithful from the time they see each other and I do not like past spouses or loves because it negates the love the reader is supposed to see between the hero and heroine. This story matches all that and is SO much more. I am VERY glad I ignored the other reviewers and bought this story!

You know what you're getting
When you look at a romance novel, you generally have an idea of how intellectually stimulating it will be; you can just tell by the cover, the thickness and the publisher. When I picked this book up, I knew I'd be getting something that falls firmly into the "fluff" category, which was exactly what I was looking for at the time.I won't go into detail about the plot, you can read that elsewhere, but this is an easy read, with just enough sadness, misunderstanding and interesting characters to make you say "aww" when they finally get together. The author manages to convey her points without resorting to horrible cliches. As far as "sheik romances" go, this one is quite enjoyable. The plot is believable, which is a far cry from quite a few others in this genre, and if you're looking for a lunch break or bubble bath read, this is it.

Loved, loved this book
This book has it all: sizzling chemistry, suspense, and a relationship that grows as the couple gets to know each other. Despite his antiquated homeland traditions, this hero is honorable, open-minded, and grows along with his Western bride. The heroine is lovable in that she is smart, feisty, has a good heart; she also comes from a tragic background, but thinks quickly on her feet, rising to challenges. The hero's admiration and respect for his ambitious bride are palpable. This is a beautifully written romance.

Fyi-Spoiler
I didn't finish the book. I prefer virginal heroines because it makes the whole experience and story more special and real for me. I'm very picky in my requirements. Since so many authors have taken to shoving sexual equality and general political correctness down our throats (maybe it's just me?), it's become a sticking point I rarely budge on. But from what I read, I would have loved the book. The h is 21, another point in the books favor since I'm also finicky with regards to age (I never budge on that). I like my heroines under 26, and prefer the H's to be at least 7 years older.

For those that love nice, respectful h's....
Loved, loved this book.Even though Zoe had a bad reputation (in extreme Middle Eastern culture), you knew Nadir truly cared for her and that he loved her. Truly heartwarming sweet book. I wish all HP's were like this. Just proves you don't need all horrible angst, horrible acting alpha males to make a good book.

"a stunning romance that sweeps the reader away"
The past six years of Zoe Martin's live have been hell. Her adoptive family has never cared for because of her American upbringing. Zoe has been treated more like a slave than family and now they have figured out another way to demean her. They plan to give her to the Sheikh as a way to get rid of her blight upon them. Well, Zoe has plans of her own and they don't include becoming the property of someone else. The last thing on Sheikh Nadir ibn Shihab's mind is marriage. His last arranged marriage ended before it began and he has no excitement about his current arrangement. However, he is determined to make the best of it especially after he sees the tribe's treatment of the woman they are handing over to him. They plan to embarrass him by foisting their American daughter on him but Nadir will not give them the satisfaction of appearing displeased. Strange things happen when he looks into the eyes of Zoe; he sees more than he ever bargained for.Is it possible for Nadir and Zoe to find love in the desert? Will Zoe find a way to escape the arrangement or will she find herself falling for the beast of the desert? The Tarnished Jewel of Jazaar by Susanna Carr is a stunning romance that sweeps the reader away. I could not get enough of Zoe and Nadir. Both characters are set in their ways and determined to go about their own agenda. They don't want to be together but are forced to be by circumstances beyond their control. Yet, after they meet things change because love is a complication neither counted on. I just love Ms. Carr's descriptive writing I felt like I was right in the middle of this desert celebration. I could clearly see the beautiful scene taking place when Zoe and Nadir first meet. The Tarnished Jewel of Jazaar is anything but tarnished. It is a standout in the "Sheikh finds love" plotline. Zoe and Nadir make a sexy and smart couple! I look forward to sampling more of Ms. Carr's writing because it's beautiful and rife with emotion.Miranda for Joyfully Reviewed

A really good read
Nadir is a wonderful lead Character. He is a handsome loving Alpha male. Zoe has been orphaned and mistreated by her relations who had become her Guardians. Through an arranged marriage these two come together and the storyline becomes even stronger. A very worthwhile read. Highly recommended.
