Great sound
I'm writing this review after 2 years of owning it. This unit is fantastic! I don't often ride with other people so I knew I didn't need the mesh system. I mostly got it so my wife could call me when I'm on the bike and not worry that I didn't answer. I'm sure we've all been there "I'll only be out like 2 hours"....6 hours later you're still out riding and lost track of time. Sound quality is absolutely fantastic! I have this mounted in a shoei that's not loud but not quiet either, but this unit is more than loud enough for music, podcasts, gps lady, phone calls you name it over the wind/road noise. Super easy to set up, super easy to maintain. Battery life is amazing! 2 years of nearly every day using this thing and it's still going strong. I charge it about every 2 to 3 weeks depending on if I take any weekend rides or not. I usually don't run music in it the whole time if I'm on a long ride, but that's because my phone won't last, not to do with the unit not lasting. The unit is on the whole ride though incase i get a call. Radio works just as good as a car radio. You have to remember what each button does on the unit, so that's kind of a bummer if you don't have a phone mount, but it's really no big deal. Connects automatically to my phone. If you have a pan America, it connects easily to the bike as well. I took it off that though and just go through my phone because it's not my only bike, but the controls on the bike work well to control the unit. Just annoying to connect it to the phone again when switching bikes, so I just leave it connected to my phone. Oh and being water resistant is the main reason I picked Cardo. I've been in some gnarly weather, and didn't even have to think twice about the unit thankfully because I was more worried if I'd make it through the insanely deep water in the road. Had a day a couple months ago where the water was over my pegs on the Pan am. Couldn't believe it was that bad, but I didn't really have a choice as there was no where to pull over so I had to keep going. This thing didn't even bat an eyelash. Just kept me entertained till I got home. Called my wife to warn her without taking the helmet off too as I was soaked through all my clothes, even my waterproof jacket. Highly recommend this thing.

As compared to lower cost units
Update (9/17/23): some additional observations from using this for the past 6-weeks : 1) The FM reception has been much better than the cheaper units; I have five FM presets, and most work well; the ability to move FWD and BACK between the presets is very useful. 2) Certain apps do not work correctly, but that may be related to using a beta iOS version (17). 3) If you intend to connect to your phone, it's better to have BT enabled on your phone, and THEN powering on the Cardo; if you do it in a different order, sometimes the Cardo won't connect correctly. Changing rating to 5-stars, worth the extra cost.Summary: I tried the six (6) lower cost units below (most were Vine reviews), and they are all lacking for one reason or another (mainly FM reception and music controls). So after more research I decided to purchase this Cardo Freecom 2x.Use Case: I use this for daily community (solo rider), so I have no need for the intercom function. Primarily use it for FM radio, and secondary for bluetooth playback from my mobile phone (iPhone 12). So the first important feature is FM radio reception and station control, and second most important is playback control. My everyday helmet is an Arai Corsair-X, which is notoriously louder than other street helmets. I also we foam ear plugs, so the volume usually needs to be maxed out, and still sometimes isn't loud enough at highway cruising speeds.Observations: The one feature that sold me on the Cardo system is the over the air (OTA) software update. This is really important because those other lower cost models all had software bugs that would require a firmware/software upgrade to fix (a common problem is play back controls as the iPhone iOS changes).Recommendation: Different units have different benefits and features, best to spend some time researching the feature you need.Pros: Over the Air (OTA) software updates; FM radio presets; JBL speakers.Cons: Cost (but you get what you pay for). Conclusion: At $189, rating this 4-stars (cost).Related Products:Moman Motorcycle Helmet Bluetooth Headset, H2【1 Pack】 ~ $504.0 out of 5 stars 555 ratings | 28 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C6DPVWDPMOMAN Motorcycle Helmet Intercom, Wireless Headsets H3 ~ $704.2 out of 5 stars 25 ratingshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B713X78PFODSPORTS FX8 AIR ~ $564.3 out of 5 stars 168 ratings | 15 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09DKFXRGSFreedConn Helmet Bluetooth Headset T-Max Pro ~ $623.5 out of 5 stars 8 ratings | 3 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09V244BXZFODSPORTS FX6S Helmet Intercom ~ $804.3 out of 5 stars 1,003 ratings | 122 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MYYJQPVILM Motorcycle Bluetooth Headset ~ $804.2 out of 5 stars 44 ratings | 9 answered questionshttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B7MD364T
