Sensor Itself Is Solid, Just Pray Yours Arrives Intact
Ordered this to replace my old sensor that died during a move (the original lasted me a solid 5 years, no complaints there). Unfortunately, this is how the replacement arrived. Dented and actually pierced through the box, and the sensor itself is non-working out of the box. I was on vacation when it showed up, so by the time I got back I had missed the return window. Lesson learned on my end. Setting the delivery situation aside, the sensor itself is a great product when it works. The Vive setup does have one quirk worth knowing: you need both base stations working in perfect sync to actually play, so if one goes down you’re stuck until you replace it. Annoying but that’s just how the system is built. Rating the sensor as a product, easy 5 stars. It does its job well and the previous one held up for years of regular use. The delivery experience itself I’d rate 1 star, but that belongs in a separate review. If you’re buying, just inspect the box the moment it arrives and don’t wait like I did.

Perfect for my usage!
Works perfect as long as you understand how they work. These are 1.0 base stations, which means you will not be able to use more than 2 together. If you are like me and just need pretty good FBT to work with your vive trackers then these are perfect. However, if you plan on dancing or doing anything else that requires alot of accuracy within your tracking id suggest going for the 2.0s so you can add more over time. The more baystations the better the tracking as they can rely on one another when one isnt pulling its weight. These however work just fine if you just need decent tracking. Pro tip, theres a free app called Lighthouse PM on the playstore (not sure about apple) that allows you to control the bays from your phone, putting them in standby mode when not in use and turning them on in an instant when you need.

Amazing works exactly as intended
I’ve been playing VR for about 2-3 years now and the base stations do exactly as they’re intended, they’re extremely easy to set up and in my experience they have decent durability considering one of my wallmounts had an issue of falling off the wall occasionally due to me using an alternative version that doesn’t require drilling into the walls and the base station sustained no damage and still worked perfectly fine though I do have carpet floors so results may be different when dropped on hard floors Only thing to remember though is only have them plugged in during VR sessions and when you’re done unplug them, I made the mistake of leaving one of my base stations on for an extremely long period of time which burnt out one of the lights or whatever on the inside which is required for it to function which lead to me having to buy a replacement for it Also you can play VR with just one singular base station however it’s extremely restricted in how much you can move around your playspace since you have to stay facing the in the base station’s direction the entire time, so i’d heavily recommend getting at least 2 of them which will allow you to at the very least have basic 360 degree tracking allowing you to move however you want as long as you’re still within both the base station’s view. And you can go up to 4 base stations if you have a big enough play area in order to get the maximum quality tracking ingame as possible Overall an amazing product despite being a bit pricey

Wow there's a lot to unpack here.
These are fantastic for what they are but this generation does not work in compatibility with the first generation of base stations. These are a mid cycle refresh with a different led pattern and seemingly better tracking than my 2016 vive bs, but there was zero indication on this site that they would not be compatible, if you have the first gen Vive and need to replace one of your base stations you should get it repaired through HTC, because I bought this one I had to buy a second one to get a full setup working and now I have a useless base station sitting on my table. This does track what seems to be noticeably better than the first generation so I guess that's good but I still would rather have only bought one given there listed as the same product. I have a pretty huge room scale setup and they do the job well, there are basically no dead zones or problems tracking once you go through the hassle of getting it set up which for me required a lot of waiting since I had to buy another one. At least they work really well individually since I'm sure some folks will be in the same situation as me but not have the funds to get the second one

works perfectly, no issues
No issues with my older HTC Vive. Plugged in the power cable, and everything showed up in SteamVR as it should. One thing to be aware of, that I didn't know till after I bought this bast station. Apparently you can only use 2 of the 1.0 base stations at a time. I dug through the archives, and forums but everything I found says that you can only use 2 of the 1.0 base stations at a time.

Value king
Value is incredible on these. If you’re on a budget, pick up two of these instead of 1 2.0. The only reason to get 2.0s is if you want 120hz tracking or if you want to use 3-4 stations for perfect tracking quality.

I absolutely loathe these things.
So I honestly don't know how to rate these. The things aren't cheap, you obviously need them for tracking, and when they work they just work, but when they die it's a hassle. The only thing can be said about their regular normal use is they can be slightly annoying. They have two spinning motors in them which hum and buzz, and can seem to be loud and annoying at certain times and almost inaudible at others. If you have them attached to lighthouse poles in your room or have them hard-mounted on a wall or something similar they can make some noise and vibrate. However, these lighthouses seem to have an unknown probability value. I personally had one die after less than 2 years of light use (less than 72 hours run time/in-game time), I had one replacement arrive DOA with the same issue as I was needing to replace the dead one (bad laser diode), and you'll find countless threads online of these things kicking the bucket at seemingly random times and without warning, along with horror stories from HTC's customer service. You'll also find people saying they've used theirs pretty heavily for years and they're still going strong, or someone who's had one for commercial use that's had the thing running nonstop for years and it still works. So it's sort of playing Russian Roulette with these things. Is yours going to die one week after the warranty expires on it? Is it going to die after 3 months and you're forced to deal with the legendarily horrible HTC support? Will it last 10 years and you never have a problem? Flip a coin and find out. Another problem that may or may not appear over time with failure rates on these is that the original Vive which has now been discontinued cannot use the version 2.0 tracking base stations, it's only compatible with these 1.0 versions. There are no real 3rd party options for these things, so if the production of these is stopped and failure rates remain unknown but a definite eventuality due to moving parts, you may be forced into upgrading sooner than you planned to, or replacement parts may continue to rise in price if production is stopped due to the discontinuation of the original Vive.

It works as is described. Happy with my purchase.
I updated my base station 1.0 but after the successful update, steamVR kept on indicating an error. There is a solid RED LED, after the base station fully booted up. Not able to find a solution so, I brought this unit for replacement. This unit does resolve all my issues, after a successful update via bluetooth, base station boot-up, there is no Red LED lite. only a Green one. It works in steamVR, no more error messages. I am happy with my purchase, so glad that was able to find it on Amazon. Highly Recommend!
