Super game! Not hard to play and worth the money.
Playing this with my wife and 6 year old son. We have a baby, so planning out a campaign and teaching the rules of other systems takes a lot of time that we don't have. This is a little bit of setup, but very interactive and a great time with no screens involved. Because the game has minis, it is a game in a game. We've been painting them and having a great time. We have acrylic paint pens and they do an awesome job of letting our kiddo have fun without making a gigantic mess or having too much difficulty with paint brushes. The game itself is simple once you get going. The 14+ is really for the 'Zargon' player only. They can guide younger players. My son is not a strong reader yet and gets along perfectly well with only a little bit of guidance on what is on the cards and during the armory portion of the game. With 14 quests, this is basically 30 hours of family gaming and it's very simple to add more quests or redo old ones. The expansion packs look like great value too. Well worth the money!

This Version is the BEST! Quality Pieces You Will Love.
We already owned the regular version, but we purchased the HeroQuest Deluxe Edition for a family member who wanted the full experience. Let me tell you, it was worth it! The pieces are substantial, high quality, and make the game much more immersive and enjoyable. I'm relatively new to HeroQuest, and the deluxe components are one of the reasons I've become such a fan. The game encourages teamwork, so if you enjoy working together with friends and family rather than competing against them, this is a fantastic choice. I also enjoy using the companion app to guide the adventures and storylines instead of having to create everything myself. Overall, it's a great game and a much better experience than I expected. Highly recommended!

Perfect game from the past
What a blast from my past. I still have my original HeroQuest set and just had to get this new version. Everything about it is incredible. The details on the figurines is incredible. Where the original had cardboard furniture with plastic pieces, this he version has detailed plastic pieces. The design for storage inside the box is very near and organized. Much better than the original release ever had. This have is a great introduction board game for younger players or newer gamers that might be looking to get into D&D style games but are out of by the steep learning curve that comes with those games. Definitely recommend downloading the companion app so you can play solo or join in the fun with a group of players.

Got for Christmas 2025.
Same as I remember from when I was a kid. The pieces and the cards are very well made. This is a fun one, worth every penny.

A blast from the past!
I used to love playing Heroquest with my friends when I was in middle school. It just as fun to play as I remembered! Except now I get to play it with my boyfriend instead of my school friends. They redesigned all the miniatures and refreshed the artwork. I really like the new pieces. I kinda miss the old artwork. Regardless I love the game! I recommend to anyone!

Comparison to the original
In all the pictures I took, the original is shown above or to the right. Some of my original pieces are painted, they did not originally come that way. One thing not shown is that unlike in the original, only the skulls are on sprews the first time you open the box. Another is that the sarcophagus actually opens. The box art is different, but similar, and the box is not as wide, but is much taller. I disagree with the 14+ age recommendation. I'd say 8+, a player needs to be able to read, do basic addition and subtraction, and play a game that takes over an hour. There's no blood or anything that warents a 14+ either. The board is bigger as are the squares of the grid. I prefer the unhelmeted knight depicted on the lid of the original sarcophagus as well as the etchings on the pages of the origanal book on the sorcerer's table. However, in the new edition, the candlesticks are not as crazy tall or as easy to break and there are no cardboard component to any of the furniture. The skulls and rats in the new version don't have pegs so you can place them wherever or not even use them. The doors are also not cardboard. Very excited about this. I think that perhaps reviewers who complain about the quality of the remake remember playing the game decades ago, but don't actually have an original to compare to. The hero and monster miniatures are slightly larger than the original, have round instead of square bases, and have way more detail. The elf hero as well as a third of the goblins and half of the orcs are female. I do really like the armor on the original gargoyle though. The character sheets are slightly larger in the Avolon Hill version and the dice are plastic instead of wood. The armory is replaced with cards and the rules specify that they are always in stock even though there are a limited number of cards. There are also 4 additional items available. The character cards are on two regular cards per hero instead of the big square cardboard ones in the original. The treasure and spell decks are all the same. The Fimir has been replaced by Abomination with the same stats and all references of "chaos" have been replaced with "Dread". This is probably due to Games Workhop and their Warhammer copyright. There are 4 new artifact cards, but as far as I can tell all quests are exactly the same. Perhaps the new artifacts are for custom quests. The stairs tile and the wide block tiles have an alternate art on the reverse side as opposed to just being blank. There is a tile with a gold symbol that I can't find any reference to, so I assume it's to mark who's turn it is. Otherwise all tiles are the same. The rule and quest booklets are glossy and bound with thread instead of staples. The rules are the same, but there are some clarifications where the original rule booklet was vague. Zargon's screen is also the same but seems to remain standing better than the original one. Overall I'm extremely pleased with this purchase and will definitely use the Avolon Hill version more often. I look forward to getting the two quest packs that are available and hope they reprint the other four as well.

LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
I found Hero Quest back when it came out in 1989 and finally in 2025 I found a new group of friends to play it with again. My original game system was getting pretty tattered looking so felt it was time for an upgrade to a new system and this set is awesome. For anyone that is a collector this set came very nicely packaged both inside the actual game box as well as the shipping box, Hasbro did good. This game and all the components are spot on and fun to play especially, if you are wanting something like DnD but perhaps easier to set up and play for a wider age group.

AWESOME!
Shipping: I received my item in EXCELLENT condition. The game was in a box straight from Hasbro factory box into an Amazon box. ( 2X boxes!) So the game box itself was in pristine condition. No missing parts/figured. Game Board also intact, perfect condition. So this is a good size box filled with tons of figures (both monsters AND furniture) which will likely find use in custom DnD games! Great for many ages; some "classes" could easily be played by someone as young as 10yrs of age ("simple" character with "simple" skills) Plays with a friend and my husband; all over the age of 40 lol It was fun. We're DnD veterans so this was light and chill. However, giving us the DnD itch! Again, they have age 14 on the box, but I was pretty cool when I was 10... lol I know, kids nowadays are not how us 80s kids were built, but hey - to each their own! It's expensive, might be worth waiting to see if it ever goes on sale; but this game is just getting harder to find, so maybe don't wait too long!
