With a starter multi-tool like this you might not ever upgrade
There are dozens of multi-tools around my house. Most of mine cost less than $20. We've discovered that most people who invest in a Leatherman or other high-quality multi-tool like the Surge or Wave are actually afraid to use them because they might "mess up" the expensive tool. It also appears that the average consumer who purchases an expensive multi-tool rarely if ever uses it because they never had a designated purpose for it in the first place. It just looked "cool." They eventually stop carrying it on a daily basis because it's too heavy. Yes, many professionals use expensive multi-tools in their jobs and in my opinion, you can't beat the durability, options and functionality of something like an expensive Leatherman. But must regular consumers don't need a multi-tool that will last a lifetime or more. They just need something to turn the occasional screw, cut the occasional piece of string or paracord or make a feather-stick just to see how it's done, even though they will never do that again with their multi-tool. Most average consumers just end up using their multi-tool to open cardboard boxes and vinyl envelopes that arrive in the mail. Bottom line, this particular multi-tool has a unique design to give it "cool points," it is solid and durable, comes with an accessory bit set and should last for years of "average consumer" use. On a "lightning deal" from Amazon, this one only cost me $13.93. Now that I've tinkered with it, there isn't any doubt in my mind that $20 or even a little more would still be a fair price. The knife blade and the bit driver both lock in the open position. The individual tools are easy to open without sacrificing a fingernail. The tool has a nice, comfortable feel in the hand although use of the pliers might be better suited to people with large or X-large hands. All in all, this is a quality, good looking, unusual multi-tool that is great for small tasks around the house. The pliers is spring operated. Considering all of the multi-tools I've purchased over the past 10 years, I don't believe there is a better quality tool out there in this price range. If I could add one thing, I'd add a small scissors to the tool. Otherwise, it's just about all anyone would typically need in a simple multi-tool. The holster for the tool is nice quality. If for some reason I were to lose mine, it wouldn't cause an emotional trauma like the loss of a Leatherman Surge. I'd just skip two coffees at Starbucks and use the money to buy another one of these multi-tools instead.
