The first thing you notice about this tape is the weight, the roll weighs in at a hefty 4.12 Kg.It is very wide at 188mm (4.5") and 20 metres (65 feet) long.Like most tapes it will have multiple uses, the only restriction is your imagination of what to use it for.The tape itself is bitumen based so is 100% guaranteed to repel water and I decided to use it on my hand made garden frame, even though the wood was 'treated' I think it will be susceptible to rain in the long run.I stored the roll in a very cool shed, and used it on a cool day too, as past experience has taught me not to use tape in hot weather as you will end up with a sticky mess, so autumn, winter and very early spring are the best times to apply this.The timbers I wanted to protect are just over a meter long, so I cut off appropriate lengths, (allowing extra for the 'fold over edges') ready to apply.I had no problem removing the white backing paper and tape itself was easy to apply - well as easy as this type of tape can be - and I was very pleased with the overall result.It really sticks to the wood too, there is no chance if it coming off.Rain just 'sits' on the tape or 'beads' off, as shown on the illustration on the Amazon web page for the product.If you think this is too wide for the job in hand, they also do a narrower version at 63mm (2.5") wide and the same length at 20 metres (65 feet) and of course it it also cheaper.Of course I think the main purpose of this tape is for decking frames, roofing timbers, flashing and even the top of garden fences which always seem to rot and it is so much easier and cleaner than applying bitumen paint, which seems to go everywhere, including clothing.This tape actually turns the job into something easy and pleasant, rather than difficult and messy.It is a little pricey but it is also a great product and I have no problem at all giving it 5 stars and I can thoroughly recommend it.

This is not a tape, its more of a flexible, stretchy, rubbery, gooey sticky membrane. Because its so gooey and sticky I have the impression it will be durable and give long lasting protection. However its cumbersome and annoying to use, especially cutting it to fit around the joints between joists and noggins for example. It just makes a mess and I wasn't able to keep it neat.I prefer the other brands of joist tape which are stiffer and more like duct tape as they are much easier to cut and fit.

The HD protect tape arrived coiled and wrapped, there's some information on the wrapping to get you started on how to use but its straight forward enough, the tape is manufactured to a high standard and appears to be very durable and malleable.The roll weight is roughly 4kg, tape width is 118mm and 20m long.The tape is used to prolong the life of your joists by placing it on the top of the joists under the decking to help prevent rot and decay as a result of water accumulating, the tape can also be used as a flashing and leak repair in some situations.The tape is easy to use by removing the white backing, just remove a little and then stick it down and peel the backing off as you go, the tape is very tacky and it grips well in position, once reached the desired end its easy enough to cut with a sharp blade or scissors then mould it into position to finish, the non tacky face has a clear plastic that must be kept on, this is the outside face that will be exposed to the elements.The tape can be trimmed down to any size and works really well offering a good moisture barrier.Overall, I'm happy with the results I have had on my small decked steps in the garden, the boards also feel comfier to stand on, I hope this review has helped, thank you.

Finally got around to using this for sealing the top of some replacement joists in a 20-year-old deck. The deck itself is hardwood planks which don't rot, but the joists were pressure-treated softwood that, over the years, have weakened and rotted in places. This tape will cover the tops of the replacement joists where rainwater would normally collect and soak in.It is a heavy-duty adhesive tape that sticks in place well and is wide enough to cover a 4" wide beam with some overlap to encourage run-off. If you split it down the center it will cover the 2" side of 2" x 4" or 6" joists - splitting it will also double the coverage to 40m, useful if you have a lot of joists to cover! It unrolls well, but you do need a sharp knife to cut it.The only downside is that it's not cheap, but you are getting what you pay for! Hopefully, it'll mean that the deck doesn't need any more attention for another 20 years!

This HD Protcet extra wide joist tape is a very heavy lump. Our son and myself along with our son-in-law all sat round the table to open it. It is packed with very little waste. It is really heavy and solid waterproof and stay put.We had a problem with one of the decking panels which was difficult to do myself and could have caused añ accident so our son-in-law who has better DIY skills than our son started with the help of our son while I did the a small part of the fence which needed to be held together before the gales could hit. Now it is not only the decking that is safe and steady inspite of downpours.The tape has also been used to secure a shed panel which must say was càught in the nick of time. Yes and all are still holding on nicely waterproofed. This is a nice strong water. This tape with can be used for a lot of other aspects since it is waterproof, broad and strong. It also makes some other messy jobs easier and cleaner to do.In our house we have been very happy and impressed with it and it's recommen. Mind the weight when it arrives and don't let children lift it.
