WORKS GREAT!!!
We have new Frieze carpet that is a very soft, dense, deep pile, etc.. It is an excellent grade of carpet that replaced our builders grade carpet after having ice damns flood our house. Insurance didn't cover even getting the cheapest carpet I could find so I got inventive & was literally able to get the carpet of my dreams while staying well within our budget by working with a distributor in a town in GA where several carpet mills are located. That being said I have been struggling to keep the carpet from getting matted down in highest traffic areas which I knew might be an issue but the carpet is wonderful to walk on that its worth it! I'm making everyone take off their shoes but that along with vacuuming 2-3 x's week with a Dyson can't keep up with the traffic of our 3 teens (& friends) constantly tromping up & down the stairs (which is where it definitely gets the most amount of wear).I came across the rake on Amazon & decided to give it a try! What a difference it made! A couple quick swipes on each stair & the carpet looks new again! The rake has 2 rows of teeth & lifts the pile right up without pulling out the twists in the Frieze. It will definitely help to extend the life of this carpet:)

Excellent tool
Dramatic impact for 10 bucks! I used this on my carpeted stairs to fix some worn spots. Easy to use and very effective. The amount of dirt I vacuumed up after raking was mildly upsetting: all of that was just laying there in my carpet all along! I plan to buy a larger one for the floors, too. Invest in this and prolong the life of your carpeting!

long fiber (shag) area rug that had never been raked--It might work better on a well made rug that is raked regularly
I bought this thing to revitalize an inexpensive, long fiber (shag) area rug that had never been raked--It might work better on a well made rug that is raked regularly. After 5 years and numerous cleanings, the long fibers (they are about 2.5 inches long) were matted and tangled. I did some research and discovered the carpet rake. I chose the small version because it seemed like it would be easier to get down and really untangle the fibers (I began using a cheap hair brush until did some research and found this rake on Amazon). Unfortunately, the bristles are too flimsy for untangling. If you have a really tangled rug, I recommend starting with a "wet hair detangling" brush from your local dollar store--mine literally was $1.That said, once you have your rug mostly untangled, this rake does fluff the rug up quite well after vacuuming! Also, if I rake the rug before I vacuum, this tool pulls all sorts of ground in little bits of dust, dog hair, and other debris tracked in by my dog and my son to the top so that the vacuum can suck them up.I have been using this rake for about a month now. I do a quick rake before I vacuum, then a quick rake after I vacuum, and my old rug is gradually getting fluffier and fluffier again! At this point, it almost looks new again! The only reason I took a star away is that if I had known the bristles were too flimsy to really untangle the fibers by brushing with a lot of force, I would have just ordered the large, broom sized version. I am really not bushing any harder than I could brush while standing up, so I could finish much more quickly with the upright version. If you are on the fence about which rake to order, I would recommend the upright version, and just use it regularly.

This is good for stairs
Works well. Takes elbow grease to sit and comb the carpet, but works well on the Frieze carpet that we have (less than 4 years old and we were told it would not matt---they lied). Be aware that you will continually have to comb the carpet because the fibers just aren't what they once were. It is easier after the matting is out. I bought a broom to do the touchup work. This is good for stairs, too.

received defective product... but they sent a new one quickly
The product I received had several of the tines bent out of shape and one whole side of tines is shorter than the other side - making the shorter side completely ineffective if you use it straight up and down (like I need to for my carpet). Also it is dirty (maybe used). The supplier sent a new one quickly that was in better shape. It works well for my wool shag rug.

Don't waste your money
This was recommended to me for raking the fringe on my Persian carpet. The only problem is that the bristles are very hard and have a sharp, flat edge so that it scrapes the wood floor. I found the perfect fringe rake at Walmart. It is a large plastic comb with big spacing between the tines. I even found one with tiny rounded ends. A lot cheaper too!

Great for cleaning dried mud, pet vomit, food off of carpet
I had one of these for years, and it was by far the best implement I've ever found for brushing dried pet vomit and other dried solids from carpet. Somehow I misplaced the one I had; I have no idea how. These carpet rakes have gotten increasingly hard to find, and this was the only one I could find. I was so relieved to find this replacement recently. But at the time of writing this review, I see that they're now unavailable. I sure hope they restock them, because I truly don't know what else I'd use that works as well as this product.

Great for Pre-Vacuumn
I loved this little thing. I live in an RV so didn't want the long broom styles so I can save on space. I have this long brown plush runner in my room and it looks horrible when lint/debris get in it and even worse, vacuuming only picked up about 25% of the debris. Using this brush I'm able to loosen it so the Vacuumn now gets about 85-90% of the debris
