The Malta Escape

Sadly lacking in all departments
I really wanted to like this book - I have read the whole series and enjoyed the previous books. This one sadly fell short of previous standards. The storyline was slow, the action was limited and the "teasure hunt" was almost an afterthought. It read more like the outline of a good story with lots of history on the Knights of Malta filling it out. If you took out the history lessons, there was very little left. I got bored of Jarko's constant sexual innuendo - it was funny the first couple of times and Petr is far more than just a ranter on food - his intellect was almost lost in this one - it was as if the author is bored with the P&J format and was writing a parody, taking the mickey out of all the key players. No plot twists, no guessing what was coming next. Very predictable and I am amazed that I did actually read all the way to the end. Not sure I will rush to read the next book in the series - such a shame!

Another Payne & Jones classic
If you like action stories with a side of historical info (think a better version of The Da Vinci Code) then you will love Chris’s books. The Payne & Jones relationship & humour adds to the story & the escapades always encounter interesting locations & people.

Too much filler.
A great story ruined by nonsensical filler. Whole chapters, be them only short, dedicated to chit-chat and banter between Payne and Jones. Enter Petr, bringing more sawdust just to fill out the book with nothing to add to the story. Previous Kuzneski books had me gripped but this I struggled to slog my way through. Sorely disappointed. Try Scott Mariani' Ben Hope series if you need a pick me up after this flop.
