Family time
I am not normally not touchy Feely kind of guy when it comes to movies, however this was a good movie for the whole family. I am a Jonny Depp fan as well. Not having to hear cursing killing explosions, the kind I normally watch this was refreshing to watch. Enjoy the movie, make sure you have popcorn and a pop, Cheers.

Beautiful movie.
Beautiful portrayal of J.M. Barrie's writing of the story of Peter Pan and the family who inspired him to write it. It was nominated for 7 Academy Awards.

A beautiful imaginative story.
This is the story about the author of Peter Pan and the family who inspired his play.Johnny Depp was very touching in this film. The children were delightful.A very creative way of telling a story within a story. Very heartfelt.Do you believe in fairies? Maybe you will find your answer when you watch this film.

Still a very good movie based on true to life events.
Although an older movie now, Finding Neverland has a timeless story line. Based on the life of the creator of Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie, it narrates how the famous playwrite's story of Peter Pan came to be. In this movie, which is not entirely true to the actual events, J.M. Barrie, who is played by Johnny Dep, has just written and produced a play that is flop and is desperately trying to come up with ideas for a new and better play. While walking his dog in Kensington Gardens he happens to meet Sylvia and her four sons, one of whom is named Peter. He becomes very active in the lives of the widowed Sylvia, played by Kate Winslet, and her sons. He finds the imaginations of the four boys to be fascinating and helps to foster their imagination by engaging them in games and stories, all the time keeping a ledger of the boy's lives and his daily encounters with them. As the days and weeks pass, he begins to develope a story based on his encounters with the young boys and the fantasy world he has helped them to create.Along the way he has to deal with his jealous wife and Sylvia's mother, who objects to Barrie's constant envolvement with her daughter and grandsons. Also, his friends advise him not to get involved with the Llewelyn Davis family because of the appearance it portrays to the community. But despite all this he becomes a kind of father figure to the boys and begins to write his new play based on the idea that the boys never wish to grow up and therefore bring to life a fantasy land that Barrie names Never Land.As the story progresses, it becomes evident that Barrie's new play seems to be total lunacy to his friends and stage colleagues but he believes that his new play will be a suscess. On opening night he "plants" children throughout the theater and at first the sophisticated adults don't seem to understand his new play. But as the children watch the play they begin to giggle and laugh and the adults then begin to understand the meaning of the play and then they too find the humor and magic in the play. The play becomes a sensation almost overnight!

This is a lovely film
Some here have spoken against Johnny Depp, and how some of the facts in the film were wrong. I am a long time fan of both Depp and "Peter Pan". Also, the characters are real, and the play is real and the story is, in the majority, true. I'm not sure which facts the other reviewer thinks were fudged. However, the play, Peter Pan, is wonderful. Although I knew that the inspiration for Peter Pan was a "real boy", I didn't know he was one of the talented DuMaurier family. Besides showing the story of how Peter Pan was written, the film gives a quick history lesson on the life of women at the turn of the 20th century. Kate Winslett's character is left penniless with four young boys to raise. Still she resists the demands of the mother, who helps support her family, by allowing James Barrie to become part of their circle. She realizes that he will contribute the male presence that her children need. She also sees that her grieving children seem happier when they are with Barrie. Barrie has his own problems with a career which started with a blaze of glory, a recent play which flopped and a wife who is more interested in the reflected glory she thought he would give her than trying to understand her husband. The quixotic Depp, as the Scots playwright, includes the sparkle that he has shown in such films as "Chocolat" and "Pirates". You may not like him, but you have to allow that he is extremely talented. Dustin Hoffman is his usual wonderful self as the theatre producer who doesn't understand the new play, but goes along with it on the strength of Barrie's past inate theatre sense, as exasperating as it is. Julie Christie, aging with grace and beauty, also gives a marvelous performance as Winslett's mother. The boys are wonderful, and let's not forget Kelly MacDonald in her cameo role as "Peter Pan". She makes me wish that she would become involved in a real stage production of Peter Pan and take her place alongside such as Maude Adams and Mary Martin in the pantheon of actresses who have played the boy who would not grow up.I can't find anything not to like about this film. It is a true story about the writing of a fantasy. If you don't believe in fairy tales or fairies, simply don't clap when asked to and go find something more realistic to watch.

a real treasure of a movie...
Great little film, very gentle and slow moving, but it is enjoyable all the same, a real treasure of a movie. I would also like to say that Johnny Depp does a perfect regional Scottish accent in this movie, its not a generic stage Scotsman like Simon Pegg as Scotty in Star Trek, on the contrary, Mr Depp manages to deliver his lines in a totally convincing soft Scottish lilt that evokes a East Coast/Edinburgh accent that J M Barrie most likely had, so as a born and bred Scottish person myself I would say hats off to Johnny Depp for sounding accurate and convincing as the Scottish writer and creator of Peter Pan.

Excellent film Good family viewing.
I watched this film years ago and thought it only reasonably good. Then I watched again recently and changed my mind drastically, it is one of the finest films I have seen in a while, Johnny Depp of course plays a wonderful part, as does Kate Winslet. Although the events in the film are largely true, a little artistic license has been taken as to the chronological timing. This does not detract one bit from the wonderful filming of arguably one of our best children's authors, enabling us all to never forget to pander to our own inner child occasionally. Excellent film, well worth watching.

Depp and Winslet at their Beautiful Best
Only bought this film on the back of other reviews read on the web and thank god I did. This film is a little gem with great characterisation and a storyline that drifts you gently through a story you thought you knew all about until now.Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are at their masterful best in exploring the intimate pieces of this story and the children are a delight. If you enjoy curling up with friend/family or a bottle of wine and popcorn this is the film for you, but if you need all action and loose concentration easily leave this lovely film alone. As far as Bluray is concerned I enjoyed the crispness of the picture and I am sure the added quality helped the experience but I don't think this is a film that particularly shows off the full effect of Bluray, but at under £10.00 I would still invest in the better quality.

Asks questions.
Saw the movie on TV and it's well done, so bought the DVD from Amazon.I like the understated performances, especially from Johnny Depp he reallyis excellent. But of course the film touches on but skirts around the realissues. I will not mention them here, it's not appropriate. But there aremoments of pure magic in this lovely movie, it's worth having and not leastof course because of the wonderful Freddie Highmore as the young JMB

Johnny Depp in Neverland!
I just watched Finding Neverland and wanted to say to everyone - if you haven't yet seen this movie - watch it! It is the best movie I have seen in ages and I was in love with the film right from the start. The world of make believe created in this movie is just extraordinary and the cast was superb. Johnny Depp (as always) was perfect in his role, quirky but not too much, loving but not overly and childlike yet remaining adult. Kate Winslet was beautiful and adorable and the children were just brilliant. I laughed, I cried, I grinned and got completely lost in the world of J.M. Barrie. An outstanding movie and one to put on my favourite movies list. I cannot believe I missed this one until now!!
