Great!
Very good read. Parts were consuming! The characters are something. Robert has all this knowledge of war and armor. Love it!

Action packed
This was truly action-packed, on the edge of your sit adventure. The betrayal of those you don't expect , the death of some unexpected and the return of someone you thought walked away.

Wow!
Hell of a book. A lot of unexpected twists that compel you to "not stop reading just yet." Still contains tongue-in-cheek humor that makes you pause in your reading to laugh out loud. Thank you Robert for an amazing series.

The best of the Sanctuary Series??? Probably!
Oh gosh, Book 7 in the Sanctuary series. There's only one left and just the thought is painful! I just completed reading Heretic for the second time in the past week. This longish book is typical of Robert J. Crane's writing and it is just plain amazing. I've said in previous reviews that Crane's Sanctuary Series is as good as or better than most of the fantasy fiction out there and Crane should stand shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Martin, Sanderson and Hobb. He is their equal as a writer in my humble opinion. I don't know why this isn't a more popular series as it holds together very well with characters and settings that work. Cyrus Davidon, the lead character, is still on a journey as seen in this book and has found he's much more than just a warrior, a general and guildmaster. He's learned that he needs to trust others and also have faith in ... hope. This is NOT a standalone volume, it's definitely a part of a series and there's far too much backstory to pick up this book and read it. However, the task of reading the first six books will be a pleasure -- and this is probably the best of the series so far. The ending was partly predictable (damn you Robert J. Crane) but still breathtaking with a bit of a surprise at the very end. Volume 8 and he final book of the series is to be released in June according to the author and I, along with many other fans, are waiting somewhat impatiently (already). It's a good thing Crane is a prolific writer and there are other books that he has published that will help fill the waiting void.

Power does not trump Friendship
I am leaving my first ever review. First I was never a big reader I have read two books in the last twenty years. I am an avid gamer playing World of Warcraft for eight plus years. I have been the Guild Master of a two 1000 member guilds and I always wondered if I would ever find something that I could relate to in a book that I would fall in love with.I downloaded the Three free books and within one chapter I was hooked. These books have givin me every emotion imaginable. The highs and lows all within a few pages. The struggles of trying to keep thousands of people happy even when you feel crushed and defeated.Heretic was by far the best book of the series and even though it was more political that the other books it was all in very good reason and made for suspence. Mr. Crane knocked my adrenalin to 11 in many of the pages and Broke my heart a few pages later just to suprise me over and over. Power does not trump friendship. I read the book in 3 days and I found myself so satisfied and eager for more all at the same time! I have recommended these books to all of my Guildmates and all of my facebook friends. People I work with also. They all love them and you will too. Go into it ready to be hooked and have FUN. You will fall for every chacarter and feel all thier highs and lows.

Good book but not my favorite of the series...
I bought this whole series a while back after getting the first three books as a free sample. I loved the first three and the two half volumes but after a while the characters start to morph into people you don't really sympathize with anymore and some of the characters I enjoyed the most either are gone or have changed enough that I don't like them anymore. On a specific note to this book, "Heretic", it was good as a book but it kind of dragged and at this point in the series you are familiar enough with the author's writing style that you know they will win in the end and defeat their opponents and that in the last chapter something catastrophic will happen so you want to read the next one and you just wish they would get to the point. There were a few surprises that I didn't see coming that made the reading more interesting.Overall not my favorite of the series but a good addition and lead up to the conclusion in book 8 "Legend".

The addiction is real
I was hooked on this series the moment I started the first book. That, by the way, was only about three months ago.Since then I have read every book out and only don't own two of them. I even made my first book pre-order for this very book!Robert J Crane's writing style is more than enough to capture the imagination of readers both young and small with just the right amount of adult humor. After reading the previous book, you come to expect the two timelines intertwining at the beginning and end of the book, but it appears that is finally at an end! Once again we appear to be up to date at the end so that the next book will, for lack of a better phrase, be in real time. When it appears that all hope is lost and there is naught but a handful of allies left, Cyrus and Sanctuary pull through an adventure against impossible odds. With multiple plot twists and suprises, and even a few that you have known were coming for a couple of books, now, Heretic will keep your nose buried untill it is finished, leaving you with a craving for more.Me personally? I can't wait for the next one! I'm just glad it comes out sooner rather than later! Now I have to go back and read some other, less exciting books untill then...

great book
Entertaining fantasy romp. It feels more like reading an issue of a comic book then a normal book, non stop action

Nuove rivelazioni

this book has everything
This book has everything, political intrigue, ferocious battles, dirty double crossers, the loss of good friends and some new and wonderful characters. A mystery is solved and so it goes on. I love this whole series. Book 8 is supposed to be the last of this series, l really hope not, maybe Mr Crane would consider a series of spin off novels. There are so many fabulous characters to choose from. I honestly could not put this book down the price is reasonable and its a good long read. Well recommended.

Incredible plot twists and surprise ending!
I have followed the Sanctuary Series religiously and I have read and reread books 1-6. Robert J. Crane has created a multitude of characters with unique personalities and dialogue. It's amazing how he puts them all in one room and blends the dialogue together with so much humor and wit. By book 6, all the beloved characters have gone through hell and high water and have forged relationships the kind where they finish each other's sentences. In this installment, Mr. Crane shows us again how masterful a writer he is with unexpected reveals. There are two scenes that made me tear up, Cyrus making a huge discovery about his mother Quinneria and Vara's final scene. The latter, we Sanctuary fans knew at this point was coming but still it came as a shock when all was starting to go well. Yes, one is never emotionally sheltered with Mr. Crane. It was hard work reading the book in public transpo hiding the waterworks. Sanctuary Series is my all-time favorite. I stumbled upon Robert J. Crane's free books in December 2014 and boy, was I glad that I did! Mr. Crane does not hold back. Oh yes, I do rage when some of my well-loved characters are killed off. I laugh, I cry, I stomp my feet, I curse, I fret, fling my Kindle (on top of my cushy mattress) and pick it up again. All of Mr. Crane's books are flawlessly written. Never had I experienced all types of emotions in a single book. And I can really say my vocabulary has vastly improved, too.If you are new to the Sanctuary series, you will have to start from the beginning to understand everything. Books 1-3 remain free. You may feel overwhelmed by the numerous characters at first but there's a reason every one of them is in there. Don't worry, the number tapers towards the end. If you like fantasy books fraught with heroism, ideals, friendship, treachery, crisis and hope, you will enjoy this series immensely. It saddens me to think that the next book will be the conclusion but all good things come to an end. I cannot wait to read the next one. Mr. Crane's books are always a treat.
