Some great tips and variations on the game
Awesome strategic game. It's pretty simple to learn, not that far off of something like Trump or even Hearts, but there is quite a bit of strategy in the game to master it.I learned this game from some old timers, and their rules differ quite a bit from what the supplied instructions showed, plus we use different variations to change strategies, so the game never gets old. Some of our changes include the point system: 5 card = 5 points, 10 card = 10 points, 14 card = 10 points, and 1s (which are high) = 15 points, the rook = 20 points, and the final trick (the last hand) = 20 points, for a total of 200 points. This requires the taker of the bid to maintain control of the tricks to the very end, to get the final trick's 20 points. Some variations we use mostly have to do with the rook. We find most people either play "Rook High" (rook is the strongest card in the game) or "Rook Low" (rook is the weakest card of trump -- but still stronger than non-trump). But we added another one called "Rook 10-and-a-half", where it is stronger than a 10 or trump, yet weaker than an 11. This creates some very interesting strategies. We have also made some rule changes for when we have a number of players other than 4. We play "set partner" when we have an even number of players. Each team consists of 2 people, and the bids change drastically based on the number of teams trying to take the bid. When we have an odd number of players, or players that may leave or come to the table at any time, we play "call partner" where the bid taker "calls" a card (or maybe two if there's lots of players) as their partner. The partner is in no way allowed to reveal themselves until the card that was called gets played. In this type of game play, each player has their own score, and if the bid taker makes their bid, each teammate is awarded the amount of the bid. If they bid taker doesn't make their bid, all the other players get the number of points they collected as a team, and the bid takers get 0 points for that round. One more tip, we have found that with 4 people, the number of cards you hold in your hand is cumbersome. So we will often take out the 2s, 3s, and 4s. This doesn't change the strategies much, but it does make the game go faster, and makes the number of cards easier to hold.

Missing my Rook partner! Great game of strategy and blind luck!
My in-laws and my spouse and I have played this regularly for the last 5 years! My father in-law passed away this July and I've lost my Rook partner! Some of my best memories of him were of him giving me grief for bidding to get the cards in the middle in hopes of ”getting the bird" especially if I had a 14! We'd try and try to beat mama and my husband without a great deal of luck! We'd jokingly gripe back and fourth at each other for losing the round! We played so much that we'd wear the cards out! This is probably the 15th deck I've purchased! I got it to play with our niece and nephew, brother and sister in-law and mama over our time together this Christmas.Make memories with your family with this fun game!Love you papa! Merry Christmas!RIP!I MISS YOU!SHOOT THE MOON!!

Safe for your soul, fun for your family
It's the SDA version of poker! Now General Conference approved! Take "bids" instead of "bets"! Feel the satisfaction of out-thinking your opponents and winning at the card table -- but without using those wicked traditional card decks. Note: gameplay includes an element of luck, but not too MUCH luck, which would be evil. :)

Rook, a fun and a little bit challenging card game!
I could not find this card game anywhere in retail stores. Glad Amazon had it. Looking forward to playing this game again, after many years of overlooking it. I remember that I liked it long ago, need to refresh myself on the rules.

This is a great game for family night
This is a great game for family night! In a world of tech things all around we like to keep balance in our family so we unplug for a night of games fairly often. Rook is one of the games we play with our grandchildren when they come to visit. Everything you need is in the box including directions on how the game is played. The cost of this is less than the cost of just one person to go to the movies meaning the value of fun for the money spent is extremely high.

This is a great card game for 4 people
This is a great card game for 4 people. My wife and I play different card and board games with another couple and this fits right in with the rest. Its an easy game to learn but hard to master. If you have ever played the card game euchre, this is very similar just you get more cards to work for and you get to call trump. Love this game!
