"Watch guard issues 24 hour temporary keys for free if you want to upgrade your out of subscription device. "That's not true.

Watchguard does good work
These firewalls are just the ticket for small business looking to secure their networks. They have a very easy set up and are easy to maintain. Setting up a back office VPN with a pair of these could not be simpler! Be aware, you really need to use the watchguard system manager software to get the most out of these. You can get it from support.watchguard.com when you log in to activate you license.

Buyer Beware of Watchguard
IF I COULD GIVE A ZERO STAR REVIEW, I WOULD.I own a small business with 6 workstations. As with most small businesses, internet connectivity is crucial. We use a VOIP business class phone system and email is crucial to our operations. Recently, we upgraded our internet connectivity from 6MB of fiber to 100MB of fiber. OUR WATCHGUARD FIREWALL CREATED A THROTTLE OR CHOKE POINT FOR OUR INTERNET SPEED. The Watchguard automatically switched its NIC from "100MB Full Duplex" to "Auto Negotiate" despite this functionality - ability to control the NIC's interface to full duplex - being the main reason for purchasing the device. Also, don't get me started on Watchguard's "subscription" for "support". APPARENTLY, WATCHGUARD DEEMS FIRMWARE UPGRADES AS "SUPPORT". Therefore, in order to get firmware updates, you have to continue to provide Watchguard with an annual (and pretty hefty) subscription fee.I CAN NOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASING THIS FIREWALL FOR ANY SMALL BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM WATCHGUARD WITH THEIR INEFFECTIVE PRODUCT AND RIP OFF OF ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS. Utilizing their product cost me tons of money in IT support and wasted time in tracking down the throttle or choke point for my 100MB fiber service. And, as a small business owner, any time spent away from the business handling administrative worries is profit being sucked from your pockets. I hope this review will save/dissuade similar small business owners from making the same mistake that I did. At least you can't say you haven't been warned ahead of time. Our business ended up purchasing the Netgear ProSafe Quad WAN Gigabit SSL VPN Firewall (SRX5308-100NAS) ([...] We are now getting the full benefit of our internet connection and Netgear doesn't charge a crazy subscription fee for firmware upgrades.

Another great product from Watchguard
I'm a contract IT provider and I've worked with Watchguard equipment for 10 years now. Easier to configure than a Cisco, more features that are useful to a small to mid-sized office and without a doubt, a very trusted brand in network security. This version is handling a very active office of 30 without issues. BOVPN to the main office's firewall never comes down. Throughput is great. I can't say enough about Watchguard.

Terrible pricing
I would like to reiterate the other 1 star comment on this product. Watchguard's approach is to apply functionality wherein the device becomes practically unusable unless you upgrade the firmware such as increased throughput on your internet connection. They then charge you what seems to me to be an exorbitant amount just to get the firmware...something like £600. This is ludicrous. For anyone considering purchasing this then please think again. Look at other products. I bought a Juniper SSG for half the price of Watchguard were going to charge me for the firmware upgrade. The Juniper took only a little work to get it up and running but I would recommend it far more. Much more functionality.

Effective and efficient NGFW with enterprise-level functionality.
I'm a professional network engineer (CCNP) working for a managed services provider that deploys Watchguard firewalls as our primary edge routing/security device for our SMB clients, and they are without a doubt the best NGFW that I have had the pleasure to work with in my career. I've put Watchguards out at 10 user organizations with a single office, and in HA clusters for 2500+ user organizations - they scale wonderfully and have risen to every challenge I have put before them - and believe me, I have challenged them.As some others have mentioned, you need to use the Watchguard Systems Manager application to really get the most out of these - the web GUI is near useless. Be warned that these are true enterprise devices - if you're just looking for internet connectivity at a small office you may be better off with a Linksys and its Quick Start wizard.
