If you'd like details, a longer writeup, and video proof of the auto lock problem, google for "LS-DB-500R marc merlin" (I can't put a link here).So I first have to say that this lock is well priced for what it offers, but don't expect any strong security from it. At the same time, keep in mind that determined thieves will likely break a window before they'll hack this lock.There is an RF version, not for sale on amazon at the time I'm writing this, look for LS-DB500R. Note as per my page referenced above that the RF protocol may not be strong and may be vulnerable to replay attacks (listening to the rf code and resending it), or broadcast attacks (a van driving down the street and blasting all open codes in a loop). The vendor will not say whether they are vulnerable, so you have to assume they are.The reason I mention the RF version is because I upgraded to it so that I can have my computer monitor the lock state and tell the lock to lock itself when the built in firmware fails (it will stop locking as soon as it fails to lock once due to mis-alignment, and even if you lock manually after that, the firmware will not notice this and still fail to lock the door until you manually lock with the lock button outside your house, or using the RF remote on the R version of this lock).For the battery problem, I personally wired my own lock to a wall power supply since I was running wires to get the lock/unlocked status anyway. For the average user, do read the other reviews about battery life problems.I would give the lock more stars if it didn't have the pretty severe autolock bug.

have had this lock on my door for a couple years now. it works great. the finish isnt coming off or fading oiut. it seems a good quality design. a little tricky to install, and has come loose twice and had to retighten it. this door get alot of use from alot of different people. we rent rooms out and alot of people haver had to figure it out. I would buy another one if needed. I got rechargable batteries for this. you have to spin them inside the compartment to make them make contact alot of the time and the batteries only last two to three weeks before having to replace them. easy to program and all that stuff. even the other half can do it.

I have had my lock since September 2015. I have had to change the batteries in my lock 1 time in this time period and the lock will let you know that the batteries need to be changed well before it dies. I use the red Duracell batteries and use the lock about 4-5 times per day on average. If you are putting the lock on an older existing door, you may run into some trouble if the bolt does not line up perfectly or is really tight, due to its mechanical nature. Installing the lock is as simple as unscrewing the old one and putting this one in the old spot with two screws. There is one wire to connect but it is reminiscent of the plug for cordless phone batteries. The setup and programming is very straightforward and easy and I programmed a couple of spare codes, just in case I wanted to give someone access and then delete the code later on. Before purchasing this lock there was the constant worry of locking the keys in the house on your way to work or juggling the groceries while trying to put your key in and then dropping it on the ground. It really couldn't be any easier to install this lock and based on my experience, I highly recommend the lock and would re purchase it.

I've had this lockset on two doors for over five years and never had any problems with them. So when I needed a lockset for another door I automatically ordered yet another. They come with a full set of quality Duracell batteries installed. Nice touch. After installation I reset the factory default codes to make sure I was starting right. It gave a beep so I assumed all was well and started to set my own codes but they would not work. After a long time fussing about and trying several times, I did another factory reset and this time no beep. Got out my trusty multimeter and found three batteries at 1.2 volts and the fourth at 0.6 volts. I put in 4 new batteries and all was well. But basically that cost me at least a half hour extra time and 4 batteries, which I had already paid for with the purchase. Not fun.

Excellent for accessing condo without key. Door frame bolt hole needed to be shaved to allow ease of movement of dead bolt. Soft rubber key covers sometimes stick under metal key frame, causing lock to malfunction until unstuck.Condo HOA needed to approve its use (color, knob look, etc).

I love this item, install was a snap, took 1.5 tries to get it all in but that's because I was confused on one point in the instructions. I was able to install with no additional drilling aside from the self taping mounting screws. I love the auto lock feature this item has - no more worrying about "...did I forget to lock the door...?" as it will automatically lock after a period of time you get to set. As the key is electronic there's no getting locked out and best of all if you have a situation where someone needs to enter your residence you can simply give them the code and change it later.Bottom line is I won't do with out one of these products again - a must have!10/31/2012 Update:I thought I would update my review since I had new doors installed and had the lock moved to the new doors. I'm happy to report the lock is still working. I will advise to buy very good batteries. I am using lithium energizers; alkaline batteries only last about four to six weeks.

Pretty cool lock. Its only been jnstalled for a week but so far so good. Afew notes-1- has to line up almost perfectly for the motor to latch the door. Any play in Your door so the bolt doesnt line up will cause lock to beep an error at you.2- DONT go to Home Depot to get your spare keys made. Or any place that has computerised lazer key machines. The computer kept miss identifying the standard key and wouldnt copy it.3- just go to a local hardware store that has the oldschool manual key machines. You will be fine.
