Nuclear Reactor Analysis

A Must Have for Nuclear Engineers/Students
Firstly, I bought a new copy because I was renting one (which is in absolutely terrible condition) because this book is expensive. I'm now several classes into my upper-division courses and we're still using it so I realized it was unfortunately dumb that I rented it. However, I will say that until my current class, I did not appreciate this book for what it is. It's a very informational and technical book that can be very annoying for engineers in the early stage classes, as I really didn't like the book for a while. The problems at the end of each chapter can be challenging as others have mentioned so it's not necessarily fun to be graded on. What I think the book is more valuable for is either growing with it as I did or after you have grown a bit into your knowledge of reactor physics and engineering and then use it as a reference. My current class is very technical and I have been reading this book religiously and the concepts are making more sense now than they ever did. The amount of things I have been able to figure out and apply in my class from this book was worth the cost alone. Also, was not expecting to have a copy made within 5 days of ordering it which is awesome! Lastly, I literally have the book open in front of me while typing this and I'm reading about heterogenous core lattices.

Wonderful textbook, but a bit dated
This book is one of the fundamental cornerstones of academic nuclear engineering. I just finished reading it from cover to cover (studying for my phd candidacy exam). The lack of commas after prepositional phrases drove me crazy, but it's definitely a thorough introduction to many different nuclear topics. In my opinion, it's getting a little dated. For example, the first page says "It is anticipated that some 500 nuclear power plants will be installed in the United States alone by the year 2000...". The book is nearly 40 years old now, but a suitable replacement just isn't out there. I also see a lot of room for improvement on the questions at the end of each chapter - they're often too vague and high-level. Regardless, I highly recommend this book for any future nuclear engineer's textbook collection. It shouldn't be used as an undergraduate textbook (though it was for me, unfortunately). If you're looking for an easier textbook with the same material, I highly suggest "Introduction to Nuclear Engineering" by Lamarsh.

A Nuclear Engineer's Bible
From my experience this is a must have for any nuclear engineering student. If there are any questions related to reactor physics, there will most likely be answer to it along with an in detail derivation/analysis.Even though I swear by D&H, I will say that most of the material is extremely in depth and can be hard to understand from a first read. I used this book as a reference when I encountered issues, rather than using to straight up learn from. Due to this, I reluctantly deducted on star from this review.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION OVERVIEW BOOK IN NUCLEAR FISSION REACTOR PHYSICS+ENGINEERING
Because this book contains adequate physics and mathematics for a good overview introduction to nuclear fission reactor physics/engineering I consider it as an excellent book in its theme. However I think it will be good to include also information on nuclear fission reactors electronic systems, etc. From Joseph-Christos Kondylakiss.n : you may interested about my scientific reseach mentioned in the scientific article with the title "Theoretically and under very special applied conditions a nuclear fission reactor may explode as nuclear bomb" by Joseph-Christos Kondylakis, published in the scientific proceedings of the Helenic Nucler Physics Society(HNPS) in its 19th scientific symposiumm held at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,Greece, on 28-29 May 2010 .This proceedings exists also in the Internet site: http://nuclpart.phys.uoa.gr/HNPS/Files/ANP2010.pdf

The definitive text on Nuclear Engineering
Chances are good that if you are studying nuclear engineering you will encounter this book and many others that reference it, and for good reason. This book is well written in a conversational style that explains difficult concepts clearly with a dash of humor. The book has not been updated in something like 30 years but the science has not changed and I have found no major mistakes or typos. This book is well worth buying if you are a little ways in to your studies, but probably a bit over the head of a beginning student.

Great book! Must have for nuclear engineer. Wish I could get hardcover
This is a must have book for anyone studying nuclear engineering or reactor physics.Duderstadt takes a very understandable approach to these topics which by necessity can be very complicated. The book is very easy to read compared to other texts on the subject. If you are in the field, you need to own thisbook.

Pretty good book
My prof teaches directly from it, so that makes I a pretty good reference in class. Not always the easiest to understand, but is any engineering book that way?

my reference book for reactor analysis
Out of all the other nuclear physics book i own, this is my reference for anything reactor related (except ADS and Thorium fuel cycle). This is not really a self teaching instrument, unless you are being trained in your job as a nuclear physicist or reactor designer / operator. Definitively recommended as directed reading for your studies

Best book, not that good printing.
That's a cheaper edition of the original one. If you try to delete something written with a pencil the printed words get deleted. The papar is thin and fragile.
