Item Package Quantity:1 This brass quick connector set from Green Thumb contains one male and one female connector. It easily connects hoses to sprinklers, nozzles, or other hose end accessories. It's constructed from heavy duty solid brass.

Poor interchangeability due to manufacturing tolerances
This item couples up fine as a pair, but does not fit similar brass quick connects or even the same branded product. The male end requires removing a few thousandth's with emery cloth on a drill or lathe for it slide into other female connects (not a big deal but is sort of a nuisance). Would think some standardization is appropriate especially if one has many hose connections as I do. Since these are (over) pricey to begin with I would expect closer tolerances on parts for interchangeability. I give it a three because if you need these things it is priced a little more competitive, than the price gougers that offer the same thing.

Works great. Although you might want to spray down with some lubricant once in a while if you leave your hoses out in the weather. A few here and there quick connects in the past on my hoses that are exposed to the rain and cold have had trouble getting apart. But you just need to spray it down with some type of lube like wd40 or something and jiggle a bit and you will free them. These brass ones are way better in quality and durability then the plastic ones. I would buy some extra rubber seals as well just in case. I have had mine for about 7 months now and haven't come across the usual problems I see with the cheaper quick connects I used to buy. I have 4 of these. You can also buy the female and male parts separately. I have these quick connects on everything.

Excellent and has less resistance.
I bought many of these sets to replace the plastic versions I had purchased from a local box store. The plastic versions worked ok, but several broke over time and connections were sometimes leaky, sometimes hard to connect or disconnect. The new brass sets work great. I tested each and none of them leaked. The only leaking occured when the gasket in the hose item I was connecting was tired. Have a set of new gaskets on hand and replace them. Old gaskets get stiff and crack causing leaks.Teflon tape is unnecessary. You don't stop leaks by filling in gaps in the threads, you stop leaks by applying good pressure between metal and gasket.A major advantage to this type of disconnect is that the internal diameter of the fitting is larger resulting in significantly less hydraulic loss when the hose is operating. This matters if feeding a power washer, trying to get sprinklers to shoot farther, or trying to hose off your car. If you use 3/4" diameter garden hoses (which are somewhat unusual), this coupler is even more important.

Much Better Than the Green and Yellow Plastic Connectors
So good because they easily make and brake good, non-dripping, connections. We were using the yellow and grreen plastic units form the big boxes but they tended to leak at the threaded connection to the hose or hydrant after a few months of use. They also became harder to make up and disconnect. We use multiple hoses for animal and plant water due to the previous owners layout of nonfreezing hydrants. In the colder weather that we are beginning now, we disconnect the hoses and walk them down in the evening to prevent ice. The next day we have to make them up for use. All this makes us appreciate these fittings morning and evening. Yes they cost more than the plastic but for us they make the daily work easier.

Good match for Gilmour brass quick connect
These look and feel very similar to our existing Gilmour fittings. Just what I needed!TIP: if you have trouble connecting older brass fittings, replace the washers on the female connectors with the Gilmour 09QSRBAG washers that are made for brass quick connectors - they have a step in so they can flex to fit the male connector.

Don't waste time with plastic hose connectors
I use quick connectors for fittings around the barn, which require frequent disconnection and reconnection for regular cleaning--and any leakage is unacceptable, if I want to maintain a dry, healthy space for my horses. For years I had bought what was available at the local hardware store; all they had was plastic. Finally I bought brass connectors, this Gilmour model and Dramm 22629's. Both work so smoothly and effortlessly, without any leakage, that I could kick myself for sticking with the cheaper plastic models (like Orbit) for years. Get these, or the Dramm, and avoid my mistake!

Great just to save a little time and hassle, but also for emergency preparedness!
One of the people who lives on our property is just sure the pipes are going to freeze if you don't disconnect the hose... even if it's 70 degrees out. This is Colorado, so I suppose it's not a totally misplaced fear. Anyway, these little buggers make life SO MUCH EASIER... so many of our hoses are old and cross threaded that it can take a bit to get them screwed on to the tap or hydrant. Plus it's worth noting we live in a high-fire area and quick connects could save valuable time in an emergency. I'm going to buy more of the female ends so I can put them on all the hoses. Haven't tried the other brand but (at least when I purchased) these were way cheaper and work well enough I don't know why I would.

Very well forged brass.
I like good hardware in the garden. The best makes me happy to see it. This piece is well-forged and has excellent knurling for firm grip and twist. It is the small good things that when taken in toto make a big good thing. And we all need big good things nowadays, right?
