Q: Can the door pulls be changed out or are they glued on permanently?

You can change them out. I painted mine.

Q: does it have a gloss finish?

It does have a gloss finish but it is not super shiny. Not quite matte - not quite shiny. HOWEVER, I am very dissatisfied with this item and would not recommend it. It is not sturdy at all and actually bowed in the middle. Finish also chipped during assembly. I am would like to return it, but it will cost ME over $200.00 to ship it back to the vendor (this is sold by a thrid party vendor on Amazon).
