MILD SPOILERSａｈｅａｄThis, alongside 'At Night, I Become a Monster', marked a sort of change in Sumino's novels. The best way to describe it is an exploration of 'bitterness';To illustrate my point, this is a summary of this story:it's ultimately about a flawed man that is desperate to grasp on to straws that remained from his youth. He works towards a goal, causing pain towards those around him, and achieves that goal he reached for. However, the goal proved neither best for him, nor for the better of that which remained from his youth. There are positive changes found in the end of this story, but ultimately, the character's journey amounts to a serious warning about disillusionment;it's easy to lie to yourself when you only view the present with dark blue glasses.it's easy to hurt others when you eternally hold them to the rose-tinted standard of the past.
