Two kinds of cable knitters
Looking at the reviews, these cable needles either get great reviews or terrible reviews. It bothered me for a while, but then I figured it out. There are two kinds of cable knitters. Some folks put the cable stitches on the cable needle, then let the needle hang loose while they knit the other stitches in the design. If you are a knitter like this, you need the grooves in the cable needle so that the cable needle doesn't fall out of the stitches and leave you with loose stitches that will drop as soon as you look away or sneeze or think about that slice of apple pie in the kitchen. If you are one of these cable knitters, you will LOVE these needles as they will save you countless dropped stitches. On the other hand, some folks put the stitches on the cable needle and then hold the cable needle with their left hand along with one of the main needles. If you are a knitter like this, you will hate the grooves because you don't need them to keep the stitches on the needle and they only serve to make it harder to knit off the stitches on the cable needle. If you knit like this, DON'T get these. Get some smooth cable needles, maybe plastic, maybe metal ones with a dip in the middle to isolate and hold the cable stitches.I knit my cables both ways, and I like these, because I HATE dropping stitches, even if they are easy to recover and I especially hate dropping cable stitches because I find them to be a pain to recover. So I use these cable needles as often as I can, though I lose them at a prodigious rate. Markers, too. Jeez.

My favorite cable needles
They are the perfect size for holding a few stitches, and the grooves help keep them from slipping off the needle. I find it easy enough to knit the stitches off of these needles, though my preference is to slide them back into my working needles.Unfortunately I immediately lost the middle sized needle, but the larger and smaller sizes work great for a variety of projects regardless of working needle size. These are my cable needles!

Three sizes to meet all your cabling needs
The needles are beautiful and the ridges keep stitches in place.

Not so great
I’m new to knitting and thought these cable needles would be perfect. Unfortunately they are not as great as I thought they would be. The notches make it harder to slip the stitches off, they get stuck in every groove. On top of that, I got a splinter from these! I have three wooden needles from other brands and have not had that problem. I used this pink needle to slip three stitches on it and I barley got the second one on when I got a splinter. Too small of a splinter to easily remove either. Really went into my thumb which makes it a little more difficult to work on my project

My wool got stuck in the grooves
Hard to release the wool from the grooves

Beautiful and compact, catch on yarn a bit, though.
These will be great to keep on hand in my notions bag but I think I'll stick with polished or metal cable needles for faster knitting. The grooves carved into these wooden needles keep the yarn from slipping while doing the first half of the cable but also keep the yarn from slipping off when finishing the cable. It really slowed down my mojo.

Good quality
Way better than using a traditional cable needle. Yarn stays on the needle

Horrible grooves
While I understand the grooves are to prevent stitches from slipping off, they actually STICK in the grooves. This product does not make for a nice knitting experience!

Would be better smooth. Not using them
Hard to get stitches over the indentations. Would be better smooth. Not using them.
