Cake Boss: Stories and Recipes from Mia Famiglia

Very nice with some commentary...
If you like watching Cake Boss, you will very much enjoy this book. You learn much about the Valastro family and the history of their rise to bakery royalty. The senior Buddy deserves much praise for all he achieved while facing much challenge in life. The recipes are terrific. It is a nice family story, easy to read, and for a good price if you buy at Amazon. I do not favor the lack of education among the family members and do not believe that any mother should willingly sign her children out of high school before they receive a diploma under any circumstances. I hope that all the family insist theri child finish college no matter what kind of family business opportunity they have. Also, I hope that the old time sexist thought patterns they describe - men eat while woman clean up after them - are not passed onto this generation. The book, the show, the family espouse wonderful values that have family at the core and for that they should be well admired. A side note, if you're expecting any mention of the disgraced brother-in-law or family heartbreak, forget it. He is not even mentioned and even photo-shoppped out of pictures. Good riddance to him! Blessings to you all.

Making Buddy's cakes
I am a man who owns his own medical business. I like to cook to relieve stress. The Cake Boss is my latest addiction. I have seen most of Buddy's shows and was anxious to try to make one of his cakes from scratch. I took my time, purchased all of the necessary ingredients and, wow, everyone was impressed with the quality of the cake! The recipes are easy to follow and you really are rewarded with the best tasting cakes I have ever enjoyed. I would definitely enter the chocolate cake I made, with Buddy's chocolate ganache and whipped cream filling, all layered and covered in chocolate fudge icing against the best cake in any country club. Yes the recipes are that good, and Buddy's stories are just like he's talking to you, right out of Hobokan!

Truly Enjoyable
I just finished the book. What a great memoir. I love watching The Cake Boss and found it fun to get to know the family and Buddy a little better. I decorated cakes for years and am thrilled to see the recipes in the book. I can't wait to try some of them... well, except maybe the lobster tails. I always wondered how people could so enjoy the cakes with the fondant on them but reading Buddy's secret helps me understand. From the recipes in the book, i will be easy to experiment with trying different things to come up with additional flavors. I also like the method he uses for having the cakes not crown. I've used other methods but his is much easier.

Great stories - not so good recipes
I love watching Cake Boss each week. I love the stories, pictures, anecdotes in the book. If you are looking for great recipes, however, look somewhere else! I have a lot of experience baking and none of the recipes I've tried have worked out. I tried making the crumb cake and the recipe calls for 2.5 cups of shortening but only 2 and 3/4 cup flour for the topping? That proportion seemed off when I was reading through it but I tried it. There is something really wrong with this recipe. I didn't even put it on the cake as it was obviously wrong. Way too much shortening. (I did save some of it for a sugar scrub, though. Seemed to work fine that way.)The vanilla cake recipe using the Italian custard turned out VERY eggy and dense. But, I still really enjoy the book and find myself reading through parts of it weekly. I am more impressed with the Valastro family after reading it. I wonder, though, if Buddy actually tried out these recipes himself before printing them.

A great book on a reality star I actually cared to read!
Even though I am a huge fan of Buddy Valastro himself and enjoyed reading his family's story. I was afraid this book would not have many recipes. To my relief, it does! Buddy tells his entire story, starting from his grandfather. It was interesting to read how the Valastro baking began. The recipes in the back are numerous and have his more popular ones. There are recipes on cakes, pies, pastries, fillings and frosting. I was very happy with the purchase of this book!

Cake Boss Book
I thought there were going to be a lot more recipes, not just the story of his family, although, I found it very interesting. I basically bought the book for the Vanilla Cake recipe, so now that I have that, I am completely satisfied with the purchase.

Very Sweet
I love his show! The genuine sincerity and love for his family he displays in his show comes through in this book. My husband who is 100% Italian bought this for me "just because". Buddy's loud rambunctious family reminds me of my husband's when he and I were kids and dating.Being 100% Polish, I am an olympic baker. I haven't tried any of Buddy's recipes yet, but I can tell they will work. They are the real deal and very similar to what my husband's aunts and grandmother turned out for holidays and for every day living. This is not a fancy shmancy "gourmet" book. This is a real working Joe Italian story and the dessert recipes that go with it. You will NOT be dissapointed.
