Hilarious!
I've read nearly all novels by David Lodge and this one in particular beats them all. It never fails to cheer me up even after reading it several times. I recommend it highly if one feels depressed. It will help forgetting all about it for a while. Great therapy indeed.

David Lodge genius as ever.
This is David Lodge at his usual best (I can't think of another writer of fiction who is so consistent) but there are extra elements. The Catholic faith is dealt with extra humanely, and with gentle insight. The other bonus is several passages of laugh out loud humour. It's worth buying this book just to find out what the hero gets up to with Newman's Own salad dressing!

Great book
Witty, deep, never boring, every time you think it has come to a impasse, there is a brilliant turnover. You never loose interest until the end, one of the best books I've read lately!
