An anachronistic timekeeping device from a parallel universe
Who needs wristwatches? Chances are, you keep your cellphone next to you, and it automatically synchronizes to a time server, so it's never fast or slow.Who needs dive watches? Divers use diving computers these days! And who needs a 100% mechanical diving wristwach, like solar or kinetic quartz dive watches never happened? Quartz watches are more accurate by orders of magnitude!Well, automatic diver's watches aren't the kind of things you need. They're the kind you WANT. Luckily Seiko manages to bring them for us from a parallel universe where they still matter.I bought this watch as a present to myself for my 46th birthday (ladies, take note: guys love watches). This is my second Seiko diver's. I like them that much.My first one was the SKX007 and although I love it and wear it regularly, this one feels like an upgrade. So let me present to you my reasons for buying Yet Another Seiko Diver's.VALUE: Automatic hackable and manual winding movement. Real diver's watch (ISO certified). Nice, original, vintage looking design. Seiko tradition and pedigree. Prospex series. All that for 264.64 $ from Amazon.A CLASSIC: The SRP777 looks exactly like a Seiko diver's collector classic, the 6309. That classic watch was worn by Martin Sheen in the movie Apocalypse Now (how cool is that), and for a reason. They were (and still are) tough watches which made them a very popular choice among the military in the Vietnam war era.A BEATER: This is the perfect tool watch, the everyday beater, a classic vintage cool looking watch that's comfortable to wear, looks nice on your wrist and can take the abuse of an active lifestyle.BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL DESIGN: Nice original design from Seiko, this is no imitation Rolex Submariner, nor wants to be anything in that sense. Diver's watches are sporty, elegant and masculine. And Seiko has a tradition of diver's watches, enough to be called a 'classic' in this area.So what are you waiting for? You know you want it! Go pull the trigger on this one.

Cool Looking Watch!
I've been getting into automatic watches recently. Particularly military style watches. The watch that would complete my "military" collection is a divers watch. I've looked at so many different brands that it became so overwhelming! I'm actually surprised how much watches still have a following, especially automatics. I really like brands with some kind of history, which led me to the Rolex Submariner homages. And I say homage because $7,000 is just not the "statement" I can make currently with the real one. After some thinking, I decided against it because if it's not a Rolex, then it might come off cheesy in my opinion, even though there are some great ones out there. I wanted something unique. Upon looking at diver watches I came across the Seiko 6105 model some time ago. I saw the famous pictures of Martin Sheen wearing one in Apocalypse Now, which I think is the reason so many people like this model. What attracted me the most about the watch was the shape, which I guess people are calling the "Turtle". It looked rugged and had that military aesthetic. I was so happy that they brought out this model! It's based on the 6309 model from the 70s and 80s. I wasn't around during those times but I really like vintage looking things. Designs were definitely more tasteful. I read stories about this watch being worn by US soldiers in Vietnam. Political opinions aside and disdain for US constant involvement with wars and invasions, I really liked it's "toughness" factor. It definitely has that military and celebrity appeal if you look at it's history. It''s just all around a cool looking watch! There's really not much else I can say about this that hasn't already been said. For this price, you may not find anything better. Of course, there's thousands of diver watches. But this one stands out I think, particularly because of its shape. I admit, it may have gotten some inspiration from Rolex, being one of the original makers of diving watches. But its distinctive enough. I really liked the SKX models, but held out and finally got this one. I like it much more than the SKX. Then again, the SKX is a bit more refined and modern and is more versatile. The SRP just stands out as a sports watch. I won't be wearing it with suits. But it's perfect for casual outfits and outings. I got the 777 because I got lucky with the price. But also I think it's more versatile than the other colors in my opinion. The "Pepsi" bezel is another looker! But honestly, the 777 is the type of watch you can wear with any color dress shirt for a casual look. Anyways, you get a great package here...great brand with history, military/sporty aesthetic, hacking movement, day and date complication. It's pretty accurate so far only gaining a few seconds. I can't say much about the movement because I'm not an expert on that. The rubber band is very comfortable and great looking with its metal keeper and V shaped buckle. I might get a NATO strap or 2, cause I think it'll look great on them. Overall, great adventure watch for divers or watch enthusiast alike!

Cant stop staring
Firtst, I'm very happy I received an authentic Seiko product in an official box with warranty info! This is my first dive watch (first Seiko also) but not my first automatic watch. Thought I might receive a knockoff from Amazon but I didn't!Second, for my budget the price on AMZN was unbeatable (but I waited for a $ drop). Third, I read and compared the differences between this and its predecessor, the Seiko SKX series. Conclusion:It's legit and I made the right choice for me! The size is right for my wrist. Its solidly constructed, read pretty heavy. The 4R36 movement is smooth (actually a few seconds fast per day, maybe I got lucky). The seconds hacking is very nice to set the exact time. The bezel is very tight and the triangle point is centered at 12 oclock perfectly, a complaint I've read about on the SKX. The lume is very bright. The crown is very tight and big enough to use with gloves on. And after I put a shark mesh bracelet on it, I cant stop staring at it! Best sports watch I've bought thus far.Tips: The day dial is multi lingual, so you must choose the day in your language the first time you set the day and date, ie MON for English. I saw LUN when I first opened the box and thought "Amazon sent me a spanish Seiko damnit!" The US version is english and spanish, but I didn't know about that. You cant set the calendar functions (day or date) between 9pm and 4am as that will break the gears that are already set in motion at 9pm. A tip is to move the time to 6 AM or PM and set the calendar. The secondary language will appear between 12am and 4am but its normal. Enjoy!
