A Life of Picasso Book 1
This Book is very interesting. It is detailed about Picasso and his life (until the age of 25), his influences and best of all a lot of information about his paintings. There are a lot of black and white pictures of his work as well as the paintings that directly influenced a particular work. There is also a fair amount of gossipy information about Picasso and his poet and painter peers, girlfriends and especially excerpts from letters that allow you to get inside his mind. It is quite enjoyable. Now on to book 2.

Random House needs a color printer.
Excellent insights into the development of an artistic genius. But how can you talk about Picasso and his paintings, t be exact, without color? Not possible.

A long journey that is fun to observe
This volume is one of three which describe in great detail the life of one of the greatest artists of all time. The author weaves together a fascinating life with Picasso's varied artistic works and the events and people of his time. If you enjoy volume !, you should also read the subsequent 2 volumes. The only downside is the large amount of detail.

Black and white pictures only
It was very disappointing not to find even one color photo in a hefty book of paintings by this most colorful of artists. The text, of course, showed that Richardson had personal knowledge of Picasso and could write with great authority. Still, it did not quite make up for the lack of color.
