Portable Wooden Thai Chess Game Set

After a couple attempts to purchase different Makruk sets from others I found this one and took a chance. It arrived incredibly fast direct from Thailand and was very well packaged.You get a full set of wooden chess men and a folding chess board all made of solid wood.The board has the chess pattern printed directly on the wood, it is not a label. There is a small tray for the pieces with a felt/flocked plastic red liner that fits snugly inside the folding board. The clasps that keep it all shut are little loops of red rope, which is a classy touch. The pieces are roughly turned/carved but quite beautiful and different enough shades that the sides are easy to tell apart. They're done in a very traditional style.If you aren't familar with Thai chess it is quite a bit different from international chess and the rules are easily found online. The big differences are the way the queen and bishops move, and the unique look of the pieces among other things. It's still played at a high level in Thailand and there are videos of people playing on YouTube if you're curious. There is exactly one book in english about the game and it's available here on Amazon and contains a lot of good introductory info if you're a serious or competitive player.
