This book will challenge you to think differently about fishing and conservation
A remarkable book! It's entertaining for sure but extremely educational and insightful. If you enjoy fishing on any level or even if you just love the outdoors this is a tremendous read. It's not long but it is so much to digest that you kind of have to take it a chapter at a time and then process what you just read. It shows how bleak the future is for fish and fishing if we do not conserve better and smarter but also shows some amazing positives that are going on that give a lot of reason for hope. I really loved this book and would recommend it to any angler, hunter, or outdoor enthusiast!

Fishing from so many angles - an extremely interesting book
If you like fishing, the outdoors, nature, and good stories - you will love this book. I appreciated the author's breadth of perspective... from alligator gar, to ice fishing for cisco, to microfishing, to fly fishing for native trout, lifelisting, catching eels and sturgeon, bass to bluegill, you name it, he really covers the range of what's out there with exciting first hand stories of life in, on, around the water. There is also a deeply researched theme of conservation in today's world and how we manage the balance between the needs of a growing population and a stressed environment. There is hope for our polluted and neglected waterways, if we engage...

There isn't an ending, hence, "Through"....
It's a hard read. I read it in a couple days but the writer is so knowledgeable and experienced with a talent to present that left me making more questions then prior to reading it. ( reading 1492 at same time and THATS a rough read) I'm not sure how I feel about anymore then what I think about it. A rollercoaster read. It's a must read for any responsible angler. Or any outdoor oriented individual. A must.

Fantastically Unique
I highly recommend this book. Matt is part of a unique subset of anglers who chase as many individual species as they can called Lifelisters. Lifelisters like Matt are building a fishing industry wherein every fish has value — not just those with traditional sport or commercial value..Matt does a wonderful job of spotlighting this realm of fishing and making the case that while it certainly isn’t traditional, it is the future of fishing and more accessible than any other subset of the sport..I highly recommend this book for its prophetic value, onus of protection for the outdoors, and celebration of every one of the fishes the author encounters — no matter how big or small.

Get out and fish
The book opens in a familiar place, somewhere I’ve actually fished through the apocalypse faced with the same emotions highlighted by the author. Ironically it ends in a place even closer to home, somewhere I’ve never left, experiencing the same frustrations laid out in the pages firsthand. Despite drawing direct parallels to my life right down to people I’ve fished with personally, I can tell you this book pulls no punches. Fishing through the apocalypse is an accurate portrayal of what fishing in 2019 and beyond looks like. Each page expresses a personal contrast of what fishing is and ideally should be or what it could devolve into if we’re not careful. The book highlights the unique time in which we’re alive where we can still experience the indescribable grandeur of the natural word. In direct contrast to this the author points out what we’ve lost and how the wildness can be commercialized and neutered into a pay attraction on the side of the road. This book is set in present day and seeks to urge the reader that there’s still time to right the wrongs or at the very least enjoy what’s left of the ever changing natural world. No matter what path you choose you’ll enjoy every page!

If you are a fisher, buy this book
A Book Review for Fishing Through the Apocalypse, by Matthew L. MillerFishing Through the Apocalypse is not a how-to book about fishing. It is a text on fish, conservation, water, natural history, the tortures of industrialism, greed, and the ineptitude of the human species. Miller poured his soul into extensive research, comprehension and personal experience to develop each fascinating chapter. In several passages, he presents complex aquatic science in a style that is easy to understand. Whether you enjoy catching bass, trout, carp, catfish or just appreciate soaking worms under a cork to see what lurks in your local lake, you will thoroughly appreciate Matt’s convincing prose. Ultimately, you will gain an amended view of how important pure water is to our world and its creatures and learn about the incredible successes that have reversed degradation to the environment, benefiting not only fish, but us all. If you are a fisher, buy this book.
