love DS9!
First, the physical DVD set. The packaging makes me nervous with two disks on each peg and everything crammed so tight. I’ll need to get a separate case to keep the disks protected from damage.Second, what’s on the DVDs. Its bonus features are fantastic, giving a great look inside the creative process, and I love the crew dossiers.Third, the show itself. Once the creatives found their footing, they took the show in a bold new direction. Serialized storytelling is the only thing that makes sense if it’s set on a space station: they don’t get to warp off to the next sector and leave others to clean up the messes they made. That leads to much richer, more complex plots, characters, and relationships. It takes such a raw, honest, varied, and compassionate look at what it is to live with trauma, and a nuanced and sophisticated look at the positives and negatives of religion and politics. It ended up being great for the show that Michelle Forbes didn’t want to play Ro as a permanent leading cast member because it got us Kira as second-in-command rather than just Starfleet members paternalistically being placed in charge of a people just beginning to find their feet after a long and brutal occupation. All of the characters are so fascinating, and all have personal and interpersonal arcs that are brilliantly written and acted. The affectionate hostility between Odo and Quark is endlessly entertaining, as is the Miles and Julian buddy comedy. Nog’s story arc is my favorite in the franchise. Both Daxes are awesome, and Kira is one of my favorite characters in the franchise. It’s refreshing to see a Starfleet captain who’s capable of healthy relationships: nowhere in the galaxy can you find a better dad or friend than Sisko, and I’d sure love to be invited to one of his dinner parties. Garak is by far the best written and acted character in the franchise. Sometimes he simply lies outright, other times he waves the truth right in front of you while calling it something else. Layers upon layers of deception, truth, and lies. The peerless Jeffrey combs plays Brunt and multiple Weyouns, all of which are subtly different (the defector is VERY different). DS9 has two of Treks three best individual villains (the third being Alice Krige’s Borg queen). Winn, who’s willing to inspire religious terrorism and civil war to gain and maintain power, and Dukat, who’s even more terrifying as a cult leader than he was as a genocidal megalomaniac fascist military dictator who handed his own people over to the Dominion. It isn’t enough for Dukat to control what people do and say, he also needs to control what they think and feel.DS9 adds so many rich layers to the story of the Bajorans, Cardassians, Klingons (especially with wise General Martok), and Ferengi, and brings in great new aliens from the Gamma quadrant. The Dominion arc is the embodiment of sophisticated storytelling at its finest, looking broadly at the politics and social impacts and narrowly at the personal costs of war. Its final episode is the most satisfying in the franchise. I only wish we got to hear Morn speak, and that it showed if Jake and Nog maintained their friendship.

Good show, watched it when it premiered. Now I own it. Bought my copy from another web site after amazon shop didn't send it out.

Nice set
This show and Voyager and Enterprise were always on when I was at work or having to go to bed because of work. I saw two or three episodes over the air, ever. I have some catching up to do.I bought the sets. Yes, the packaging complaints are legit. Stacking two or three discs to a post is a pain in the you know where. All discs are gray with silver text. Boring and not easy to read. I'd rather have the sets take more shelf space. Then again, I'm starting with the first episode and actually, how often will I watch a particular episode? Stacked discs is fine.Video is very good. Audio is 5.1 surround and sounds great.I can watch when I please. Best? No commercials!!!The price may seem high but when you figure "per episode" it's a good deal.

I Forgot How Amazing this Series Is!
I watched this series back in the 90s when it originally aired, then later watched some episodes on Netflix. Now purchasing the entire series in one set, wow. I'm amazed at the dialog and depth of the content in easlch episode. Back in the 90s, i didn't appreciate this series as much as I did TNG and Voyager, but now that I am older, I find this series holds its own as far as the deep philosophical lessons as well as the political and diplomatic encounters with other species. As for the quality, it's not great, but it's also a product of the 90s and the technology available at the time. Sure, they intended this for old tube tvs as this is all that was available at the time, so one cannot expect high definition. Our TVs today highlight every flaw in the picture, but this is just a difference in technological advancement. Those that have complained about picture quality are spoiled by today's technology and do not represent the lifelong fan base this series has garnered over the years.Others have pointed out the flaws of the DVD production and packaging. I can attest that it leaves something to be desired and did experience some unplayable discs to to heavy scuffing. But since I own these DVDs, I took a chance on polishing the affected discs with a fine abrasive compound to remove the scuffs. This worked well for me and was able to open all discs. It is recommended that you check all discs ahead of time, either in a computer or dvd player. In a computer you will find all errors without error correction by dvd players. This will help you identify problematic discs. It seems inevitable that some discs, especially in the first three seasons, will be scuffed. I suggest you employ a similar method by removing scratches and scuffs with a fine abrasive compound applied to the surface of the disc to remove those scuffs. Look up rhe procedure online for proper techniques to use. Exchanging the set will most likely not solve your problem as it seems to happen in shipping with discs vibrating and moving around due to handling. The discs are not real snug in the cases, so this is an inherent flaw in packaging. Luckily, only 4 out of the 47 discs were affected for me.Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this set and will be cherished forever!

Such a great series
It’s DS9.If you like SciFi, then Deep Space Nine should definitely be in your library. Especially with the lack of this show running on prime annnnnndddd the fact that amazon runs ads for prime video. I thought we were getting away from ads with paid video usage but now we get ads again and need to pay again to remove ads… screw all that, go back to basics and own your videos. ZERO ads for me when I watch this and I don’t have streaming quality changes or whatever since it’s a DVD. Worth every penny.
