Quality went downhill
I am a full-time mechanic and I have used the Wilde pliers for decades and I considered it to be the best plier that I ever had. The old version that I always used had all-metal handles with a grip machined into the metal handles. This new version has smooth metal handles with plastic covers over the handles. The plastic covers on this newer version slips off of the handles when you are trying to grip something. The smooth metal handles are too slippery to use without the plastic covers and so, what was a great plier in the old version, is now basically worthless.

The One Tool No Home Should Be Without.
In the trades, this extremely useful tool is known as Pump Pliers because this style of pliers was once used in the repair of hand operated water pumps. They have comparatively long handles that enable them through mechanical advantage to exert great pressure on whatever is being held. Pump Pliers are ALWAYS equipped with a SLIP-JOINT hinge (in stark contrast to CHANNEL-LOCK Pliers) that allows them to rapidly and conveniently change their jas opening size during ONE-HANDED USE. I consider the PUMP PLIER to be a absolutely key tool in every toolbox becuase of their many uses. Because of their many applications, pump pliers fend to be among the most abused and broken tools in an amageur's toolbox. They, therefore, need ti be sturdy for survival. The pump pliers sold by Amazon are sturdy enough to withstand most amateur use. (In hardware language, they are called COMPETITIVE quality, as distintuished from the PROFESSIONAL quality.) I like this product, and this pair is going directly into my toolbox. For whatever its worth, I plan to order and additional one to go into my kitchen drawer where it will replace the pump pliers once belonging to my grandfather, where it will be used frequently to remove stuck-on jar lids and bottle caps -- even cracking open difficult nuts. Every kitchen should have this tool available. I highly recommend this particular tool to everyone for just about every use..

Best quality best pliers ever made!!!!
Had a pair of the older style that lasted me using them almost every single day on the farm for almost 12+ yrs. I can honestly say I put these pliers through the most extreme use using as a hammer, pry tool, handles as a centering guide to line up to another mating surface, and about anything in between. The most durable best quality pliers I've ever used and never once let me down. I wouldn't have bought these but my others have been lost. Or rather picked up by someone else and not returned. I'm still looking for them. The new type have a different jaw design and improved cutters I find handy. I would purchase these again and definitely tell whoever asks the same thing.

Favorite USA made Pliers.
These Pliers are some of the best made with a flush fastener so they don't prevent ya from accessing a fastener. The 70° (approx) head also helps in tight spaces plus it gives ya alot more torque on a fastener. They are made in the US (Kansas) with a very aggressive tooth patern that grab the fastener and will not slip, plus the teeth don't wear don't very quickly (with years and years and years of daily use). Wilde makes my favorite Pliers, Punches & Pry Bars. They actually make them for alot of others high end brands (you know who) and get Re-Branded and charge alot more. I would like to have a textured grip version available, but the grips on these are designed for chemical resistant due to mechanics using them in harsh environments. These come in a smooth grip only version but they still have grip to them and are replaceable by calling Wilde (Lifetime Warranty also) and getting them sent to ya free if ya have any problems but I haven't had any problems, it's nice to know if I did. I would like to see a textured comfort grip option available some time in the future.

pretty good
These are pretty good for what I need them for. I do a lot of plumbing for work and needed smooth jaw pliers for chrome finished fixtures. Like others I immediately noticed that the edges of the jaws were sharp. A minute with a flat file took care of that. Despite that I still give these a 5 star rating simply because it took hardly any time to correct. I wish these came with a plated or painted finish because the uncoated steel rusts easily, doing plumbing and whatnot, but again despite all that this is a quality set of pliers make in the US by, as I understand it, a smaller manufacturer. That gives it a high rating by itself in my book as the owner of a small business. The fact that they are easy to use, smooth and made of quality material makes them all the better. I'll absolutely consider more tools from Wilde in the near future.

Accept no substitute.....
These are the same as those sold by Sears for decades (prior to 2010, i sold them for nearly 2 decades).... Everyone who works on something needs them, they're one of those tools that really have no substitute. There many versions from many manufacturers, but this is the smallest and lightest they are extremely strong for the size i have used them many many times on stripped/ frozen brake lines and bleeders when nothing else would fit or work. As a note its hard to tell online but the 'Wilde tool/ Proto/Western Forge' tool is made in the USA and quite a bit smaller and more useful than those from Channel lock and the new craftsman version , the listed dimensions looks very similar.
