The Melon Basket Weaving Kit
A**W
Fun Intro to Basket Weaving
I want to get into lauhala weaving since I have a hala tree with lots of project material (i.e. leaves) growing on a tree in my backyard. To get into weaving I decided to try some kit projects initially, and this melon basket is my first one. The project took about four hours in a single evening. The instructions are good except for the God's eye weave. I had to watch a video to make sure I understood how to continue past the one round of wrapping which was illustrated in the instructions. Adding more detail on the instruction sheet for both God's eye and how to finish weaving would be ideal. The finished basket is cute, and it was fun to make. I know nothing about basket weaving yet, but this seems like a good place to start. You'll learn some weaving skills, including reed preparation, and you won't have to worry about struggling through a long or difficult project.I bought another melon basket kit and the farmers market basket kit directly from the manufacturer, so I'll be making at least a couple more baskets soon.

Fun and rewarding
I have never made a basket before in my life and this was a lot of fun and came out looking beautiful and very professional if I do say so myself. I am definitely going to try more of these basket weaving kits.

Pictures are deceiving
Thought it would be a great idea to learn some basket weaving. So far, it sits in a bucket on my lanai waiting for me to figure out the first step! Instructions are vague. Even looked on youtube for instructions. This is not a project for a beginner. I should have started smaller, maybe coasters or a placemat....live and learn I guess.

A dream gift
My Mom collects baskets and I thought it would be fun to make a basket for her for Christmas. The melon basket kit seemed just the perfect choice! The directions were clear and easy to follow. I am a visual person so I did find a video about doing the God's Eye on each side since I haven't made one since the Girl Scouts. The basket turned out perfect! My Mom loved it and was impressed that I made it for her.

Love my new basket
More than enough materials to make this basket and the instructions are easy to understand. The only thing that was difficult was starting the spines of the basket, it took a couple tries but got it in the end. 100% would recommend.

Not enough supplies
I love this basket. I had fun making it. At first it didn't appear to be working, then, like "magic", it came together. The only problem is there is a huge gap in the bottom because I ran out of reed! So I've put it away in a closet for now. I am looking for an additional amount of reed so that I can finish it but so far can only find massive amounts for sale and I only need a couple of yards. But other than that it's a lovely basket and very fun to make. (The shortage of reed was probably because I wove something incorrectly. It seems I am the only one with this complaint.)

Nice kit. Never woven a basket before!
Color is more white. Would like to know how to stain, dye or seal it. But it came with more than enough reed. Did have a hard time at first with the gods eye. But I YouTubed it for help. Be aware it is literally about the size of a honeydew melon. But I feel accomplished! You do need a measuring tape and pruning sheers to cut it and clothes pins or chip clips to help hold your spot. Make sure you use the correct side of the reed or it will be rough and more splinter-y.
