As I've stated in my reviews of Marti's book, Six Is for Hexagon Encyclopedia of Patchwork Blocks Volume 6 and her other set of templates (H), these are perfect! Whether you sew your hexies by hand or sewing machine or English Paper Piecing (EPP), these are the best. For hand and EPP, the templates have small holes to mark the sewing line of to mark the paper pieces used in EPP. For sewing on machine, see Marti's book for excellent tips on marking the bed of your sewing machine to make piecing accurate and quick! The hexie bug is contagious and these are the prescribed treatment.

These are excellent tools for any quilter or crafter. I bought them for quilting, but my child has found a double use in crafting. They are great for tracing shapes.This is exactly what I had hoped for. They are accurate. The thickness and heft is great.You can use them for patchwork or fussy cutting.I love this set!

These templates are very easy to work with. They have the 1/4" seam built into them. Place a template onto card stock paper and use a pencil or pen to trace around the template. This will become the cutting line. The holes at each corner of the template are marking holes. Use a pencil or pen to mark the holes onto your paper or plastic. Remove the template and connect the dots by drawing a line from one dot to another. This line becomes the sewing line. If you want a larger size pattern, you can trace around the template and use this line as your sewing line, however, you will need to remember not to cut on this line, instead, add an additional 1/4" to an inch beyond to allow for the seam allowance. You an play with the templates to create your own designs and shapes for your quilt. You are only limited to your own imagination.

They are templates. They are acrylic. One nice feature is the pin holes to mark the 1/4 seam allowance. One can use the same templates for fabric as well as making the paper pieces.

I like these. Would be better with more alignment holes as I use these for paper piecing. Appear to be designed mainly for machine quilting. A few extra holes would go a long way for transferring template to paper. Still quite nice and worked well.

The ruler comes with a little booklet on cardstock with basic advice for using it. I'm a math person, so I find it really easy to use and understand, but I can see how it may be confusing for others. I also bought Marti Mitchell's book that goes with it, which is good and helpful, but it arrived later, and I was impatient. I recommend the book for ideas, but wait until you get it! I just started buying fabric, which ended up being very foolish as I loved a different pattern than I thought I would, which made my purchases unuseable.When it comes down to it, the ruler is great and the book is helpful. Go for it. I will make lots of kaleidoscope quilts in the future, they are fun to cut and make. The book has instructions on how to keep the block flatter where all 8 pieces meet, but I find it a bit confusing, I'm probably not doing it right, and my blocks are still a bit bulky.

The pattern possibilities are endless with this template set. They are durable and reliable. They are clear, so you can see through them when placing over fabric or paper designs. They have the 1/4" indicator points for marking your seam allowances. They are perfect.
