What the Ladybird Heard

We first picked up this book at the local library. It immediately became the only book that our grand-daughter wanted to read that week. She loved the rhyming and filled in the ending of the sentences after the first time we read it together. She is four. Her little brother, two, also loved the story. I tried to find a local bookstore that had it in stock, and could not find it, so I ordered it through Amazon for Christmas. She was thrilled when she opened it and had to read it immediately. The text is wonderful, and the illustrations of the various animals are terrific as well.

"What the Ladybug Heard" by Julia Donaldson is a wonderful book to read to children, especially if you make the sounds of the animals while you read. My 3+ year old and 18 month old kept asking for me to read them the story "What the LadyBIRD Heard" since I had purchased their copy in England. "LadyBIRD" rhymes better than "LadyBUG" in the American version. However, this is a wonderful story about how even the littlest creature can help in their world, by thinking creatively and asking for and giving help. The illustrations are lovely, too! I have purchased copies of "What the LadyBUG Heard" in the USA to give to others.

My 18 month old son can’t get enough of this book. Loves the animal sounds, finding the ladybird (ladybug) on every page, and it’s illustrated very well! The term ladybird is British I assume for ladybug which might confuse him a bit but I think he gets it. Definitely buy!

The ladybug isn't a talker but when she hears a plot to steal her friend, the cow, she alerts everyone on the farm and they decide to play a trick on the thieves to thwart their attempt. The 2 thieves have a map of the barnyard and will be going by the sound of the animals to guide them through the dark to the cow's shed. However, each animal makes the sound of a different animal to confuse the thieves and lead them straight into the duck pond! Of course they are caught. Fun story!

Good book that will get stuck in your head for days - I often find myself reciting this book in my head like a bad song. My toddler loves the book though and she’s already nearly destroyed it and needs another. I change the wording a bit so that she can say the animal sounds and she seems to have a blast naming all the animals and their noises. Worth the price alone to hear your toddler say “GOLLY GOSH”

Julia Donaldson is one of our favorite children's authors and this one lives up to all the others. Cute story and great illustrations. Up there with Room on the Broom as one of our favorites.

It's good, but apparently it's the British version of the book. We were hoping for the US version. Still it's very good.

Great story with beautiful illustrations. Our 2.5 y/os ask for this story over and over again.

The book was so popular that we replaced it when our original copy was damaged.

Kids love it.

Este cuento + CD nos ha gustado mucho en casa. Mis hijos se acostumbran a oir cuentos en inglés y así se habitúan a otro idioma desde pequeños cosa que considero indispensable. Este además al venir con CD mucho mejor al ser contado por un nativo.Es una sencillita historia de nos animales de granja y unos ladrones, repetitiva, pero divertida.Tiene bonitas ilustraciones, mide 25x25cm y tiene 16 páginas.Varía mucho de precio, asi que si os interesa tenedlo en cuenta porque hay veces que baja mucho!Lo volvería a comprar sin duda. Espero que mi experiencia te pueda ser útil!

The illustrations are so detailed and engaging....The story is superb n well presented.the rhyming lines are very apt n funny...Very good book for 20 months n older kids.( N I laughed reading it myself n my son laughed seeing me laugh). But I guess 2.5,3 year olds will like it even more( mine is 2 wen I bought)
