General ToolsGlmm200 Soil Moisture Meter

This meter didn't work, period. I checked the battery and it was OK. But it wouldn't register, period. Bought a similar unit at my local Agway and it works great. Waste of $15. Go to your local farmer's supply and get any unit but this one.

time owned it? 15 monthsLike it? NOwork for anyone? it did not work for me but it can maybe work for Utricky 2 use? I did not bother 2 really try 2 understand it I lost interest in it & I did not want 2 hurt the roots by sticking that thing in the soil too much

I wasn't getting much of a reading with this meter, so I called General Tools. It seems that is doesn't work well in sandy soil, so I tried it in some high-clay soil, and got a reading. So I guess it works, but not as handy as I had hoped.

This moisture meter is well built and easy to use, but the one thing I noticed is that it appears to read a little more moisture than is actually present. I do not have a way to accurately calibrate it other than going by 50 years experience at framing and gardening, but in soil that is extremely dry, about to the point of being a powder it reads about 2 on the scale, which is supposed to be correct for vegetables, but in reality, the soil was to dry for them. I am using it and just taking into consideration the soil is not as moist as it says.

I have a couple moisture meters and I like the simplicity of this one. I've had to use it in some hard soil areas that broke my duel prong meter, but this one seems fine. The best I can tell it's accuracy is close enough to tell me what's happening with the moisture under my garden soil.
