Amazing as usual
This book was angsty, emotional ride and it flew by, i didn't even realise i was reading a huge book until I saw the chapter number. Overall the one of the hooked books i read in recent times.

Dark and gritty.
I loved A Zavarelli's Boston underworld series and all the books she's co written with Natasha Knight but I have mixed thoughts on this one. The writing was as usual flawless and the plot was well constructed especially the revelation at 72% and the shock at 78%. I didn't see it coming at all. Overall, the romance was a bit bland and I couldn't understand how and when did Gypsy and Lucian fell in love. Their characters had depth and a very tragic past but I didn't feel connected with them. As of now, I don't know how to rate the book but if I re-read again, maybe then, I'll be c!ear on the rating.

Fabulous
I've recently discovered A. Zaverelli and thought this looked interesting. It more then exceeded my expectations. This book is so much more then what you expect on the surface. The characters are so well written and beautifully broken. The story brought so many feelings and had my heart broken for a while. It had plot twists you don't see coming and this is one I won't soon forget. Looking forward to Ace and Byrdie's story and hope to see a bit more of Gypsy and Lucien.

Gypsy and Lucian's story
I'd rate this 4.5 stars but enjoyed it enough to round it up to 5 stars. I'd actually read Convict, Book 2, before this one and wasn't sure if I'd like the character of Gypsy as she seemed like a bit of a turn coat in Birdie's story. It took me a little while to warm up to her in Confess as she went between being a brat to someone who always gave in and forgave the hero but I ended up really liking her character. Gypsy is a con artist, using her wiles and beauty to manipulate men before hoodwinking money out of them. She's approached by Lucian with a ultimatum: marry him or go to jail for her crimes which he possesses irrefutable evidence of.Lucian, a successful lawyer who vigorously defends his clients' innocence after being accused of a crime he didn't commit in the past which had devastating consequences, is domineering and controlling. He punishes and rewards Gypsy depending on whether or not she displays appropriate behaviour and micromanages every aspect of her life. While I found some of this (and Lucian) frustrating because I wanted to punch him in his junk, it was done with good intentions. He controlled where she went, what she could wear, etc. Gypsy labelled him a prince of darkness as his willingness to defend the indefensible made him America's enemy number one. Lucian was also jealous and possessive (not crazily so but it was there). There's a significant age gap between Gypsy and Lucian - 17 years. This isn't normally my thing but it wasn't really highlighted here so it didn't bother me. There was the trope of her needing saving to a degree as she'd never had anyone watch out for her and him being the big bad that is doing jerkface things because deep down he cares even though he's a troubled hero with a dark past. Just on his past - he has a great backstory. Amongst Lucian's seemingly ruthless approach to 'helping' Gypsy, there were flashes of sweetness and the pair begin to care for one another. A great quote from the book that pretty much summed it up for me: 'I wanted to protect this girl, but I couldn't deny the urge inside me that wanted to ruin her too'.There's a little bit of spanking for discipline. Again, not my thing, especially in a non-sexual sense. There's also a gratuitous visit or two to a sex club that Lucian's a member of to express his version of depravity. It added some steam to the book, so I'm assuming that's why it was included. This included a bit of consensual physical abuse. I don't know enough about BDSM to label it that but it seemed to head in that direction at the club. As per usual with this author, there's a good amount of heat and steam with several parts that were super hot and she did a great job of turning Lucian from the devil to the hero. Gypsy's transformation was great, too, and Ms Zaverelli did a solid job of making her anxious and unsure without being annoying. Thanks goodness lol. Gypsy did have a jealous and possessive streak herself, it's worth mentioning.Throughout the book, Lucian alludes to an illness - just a heads up for some readers. Gypsy ended up becoming stronger and it was refreshing to read a story with a lead female that fought for what she wanted without it being cheesy. The story had a great twist - no spoilers from me, sorry :)If you're familiar with this author, it's another solid read from her. I love Ms Zaverelli so I really enjoyed it, even though some aspects frustrated me. I look forward to the third book coming out in the Sin City series.

Superb
From the very beginning, this book pulled me in. I read it at every opportunity. It is told from both Gypsy and Lucian's POV.Gypsy, the survivor of a brutal past, is trying to do the best she can to provide for herself and her little sister. This seems to be going well until Lucian West forces his way into her life. I loved Lucian. His heart was in the right place and all he wanted to do was care for Gypsy and give her a new focus in her life.Gypsy fought hard against Lucian and his directives. She was strong willed, rebellious and fiercely independent. Despite all that, she was still insecure. Both the characters are complex, they bring out the best and worst in each other. The storyline was particularly emotional in places, reducing me to tears on more than one occasion. I love when an author can pull that level of emotion from the reader.I'm now looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

4 1/2 stars! Dark Themed Contemporary Romance - Highly recommend
Darker themed Contemporary romance about an attorney that was once wrongly convicted of a crime he didn’t commit to defend those in similar circumstances and the femme fatale he has “turned the tables on” who makes a luxurious living using those that dictated her childhood. Throw in a little mystery, an immediate attraction, with some hot, erotic, and some might say indecent adult scenes and you have an unexpected story with tons of potential for some dark fun!** Warnings for sensitive readers below, as well as why I rated this story 4 1/2 stars **⛔️ Contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including: adult language; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, restraints, spanking for pleasure, masochism, sadism, voyeurism, multiple partners, fetishes, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, gun running, gambling, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, drug use, as well as the mental, physical and sexual abuse of females and/or children, etc.** Caution: Contains scenes with reference to, or detailed graphic violence against females and/or children that fit into the storyline, but may be a trigger for some **There are a few grammatical issues but they are minimal and primarily comprised of incorrect word choice / tense, typos, punctuation issues, missed words and an extra inserted spaces / word. I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow. This story definitely has the potential for 5 stars all day long. There is great world building without being overdone. The characters are intriguing and broken, and I am so looking forward to Ace’s story, I just wish there had been more devotion to the climactic wrap-up. I am going to try and give a little information about why without providing any spoilers. Some more detailed scenes of Lucian after “the discovery”, as well as of Gypsy recounting a couple of “cons” she committed when either confessing or talking with Lucian later. It doesn’t have to be all that detailed, just a high-level summary. I just wanted more. There is another story in the series, so since it is affiliated, maybe it will contain more POVs.
