Poor Taste
I'm a huge fan of Lapsang Souchang Teas, I love the smokey flavor. This produced tasted artificial and too pine forward for me. This is likely a taste preference not necessarily an issue with the quality of the product. You might even say it's not my cup of tea....regardless, if you perfer more mainstream smokey flavors such as oak, or apple wood This isn't the one for you (or me). Very acidic and pine wood flavor drained out the tea flavor

Tea has a balanced smoky flavor; it is an acquired taste
Back in the 1990's I had a very close friend who loved Lapsang Souchong tea and introduced me to the brew. I could never understand why my friend liked it because it is a very smoky tea. Nevertheless, I ordered this in his memory because I want to acquire a taste for it and, believe me, this tea is an acquired taste. This Lapsang Souchong is five stars to me; however, I remember the tea I tried with him being smokier and that is the only reason I took off one star. I brewed one teaspoon of this tea in eight ounces of boiling water for three minutes. The resulting liquor is a beautiful amber brew. The taste is smoky yet balanced. The ingredients are lasang souchong leaves which I assume means black tea that has been smoked over red pine.Note that this product is manufactured in a facility that also processes milk, eggs, fish, wheat, tree nut ingredients, and soybeans. This tea is excellent. Per the bag, it is third party tested, GMP (good manufacturing practice) certified, non-GMO, and vegan. It is manufactured for a California company; however, it does not say where the tea is sourced from. Currently, Lapsang Souchong tea from China is outlawed in Europe because it contains residues from the smoking process that is not compliant with the EU standard. I have no idea if this tea falls into that category since there is no country of origin identified on the bag. I did contact them via the email address on the bag and am awaiting a reply. The current price of $10.95 for 8 ounces of this tea is reasonably priced.UPDATE: The manufacturer got back to me (see below) and this tea is sourced from China and manufactured in the US; therefore, it probably falls into the Eurpean prohibited category."Hello Kathleen,Thank you for reaching out and bringing this fact to our attention. Currently, our Lapsang Souchong is sourced from China and manufactured here in the U.S. Please let us know if you have any other questions.Thank YouAHNature Restore"

an OK Lapsang
Mixed results in our household with this Lapsang.1) packaging: resealable bag which is always nice2) aroma: not as aromatic as other lapwings we've bought. With some teas that might mean an issue with freshness, but with Lapland, that could simply mean it less heavily smoked3) taste: This is where the mixed results come in. I'm the huge Lapsang fan in the home (favorites being Wegmans and Mark T. Wendell) , and unfortunately I didn't care for this one much. It's lighter smoked than I prefer, but I also didn't actually like the taste, which was somewhat flatly astringent. My wife, who doesn't like tea as strong as I do, also didn't care for it. My son, however, did like it and is taking it to college with him.So 2/3s not recommend over other brands, 1/3 recommends

Delicious lightly smoked Lapsang Souchong
This Lapsang Souchong Loose Leaf Tea from Nature Restore is a lightly smoked version of a famous Chinese tea variety from the Wuyi Mountains of northern Fujian, China. If you're a veteran of heavily smoked Lapsang (as I am), this one will taste like it's definitely been handled with kid gloves. If you've never tasted Lapsang Souchong teas before, its smokiness will probably taste a bit strong.Interestingly, the teas that were tossed overboard during the famous Boston Tea Party were mostly comprised of something known as Bohea. It is reported that the three tea ships in Boston Harbor contained 240 chests of Bohea, 15 of Congou, 10 of {well-smoked] Souchong (all black teas), 60 of Singlo, and 15 of Hyson (both green teas). Bohea was a lightly smoked Chinese black tea, not unlike this tea. In fact, I've convinced myself that this Lapsang Souchong may share many of the qualities of that Colonial era tea.I brewed it in the cup by adding freshly boiled water that I had allowed to cool for a couple of minutes to around 190-200 degrees. I steeped it for 8-10 minutes, making it a slightly stronger brew than suggested by the instructions. I added no additional ingredients, drinking it straight-up for review purposes.I found this Lapsang Souchong to be richly complex, a delicious combination of light smokiness and sweetly floral black tea with a strong stone fruit (think peaches and apricots) flavor. It has a slightly resinous quality that comes across at the finish, a residue of the pine that is used during the smoking process. There is also a hint of spiciness on the tongue that adds even more complexity to the flavor. This tea surprised me with its quality, I simply wasn't expecting it to be this good. I recommend it as an excellent introduction to the smoky flavor of Lapsang Souchong. Incidentally, Single Malt Scotch drinkers may be reminded of the flavor of some of their favorite brands. For me, its Talisker and Lagavulin.

Weak tea ... Just did not have much flavor
This took a lot of tea to.make a cup.that you could really taste .Standard brew was very week and stayed week a second brew was also weak and had almost no smoke or deapth of flavor .A cup left steeping overnight had some of the classic smoke and A lot more flavor . but this really did not hit the mark for Laps a g soothing , I wonder if it might have been miss labled.
