Q: What kind of box does this come in? is it nice for gifting? one item i ordered came in an ugly corrugated box and i had to find better packaging.

It was a nice box with no tears or corrugated out seams . I was able to put wrapping paper directly over it and gifted it that way.

Q: Are the pieces removable? Traditionally, my family adds baby Jesus on Christmas day and not before.

With this paticular nativity scene, no pieces are removable.

Q: How long do the batteries last?

I just returned the second of this item: both defective. I was hoping the failure of the light and music was due to dead batteries so I bought the required 3 new Duracell's for $15.68. Still not working so it wasn't the batteries. BUT, if you get one that works know that you will pay $$$ for replacement batteries. The item is beautiful but really wanted that blue light. Amazon returns are amazing!!

Yes. It has a tiny button at the bottom part where you can turn the music on and off as you want
