powerful historical 'novel'
This is a powerful and necessarily grim narrative of the assassination of a top Nazi in Prague by two secret agents. It operates between genres, being partly scrupulous historical reconstruction and part reflection on the issues surrounding historical fiction and how it should be written, plus anecdotes relating to the author's own search for the truth, in Prague and elsewhere. i'm not sure how far this book should be classified as a novel, but maybe we need to get away from these constraining labels...

Hummm, prententious, and a style that I don't like
Hard to fit in any category... the idea of taking a bit of history and writing it somehow at the first person doesn't work for me. I don't understand what the fuss is about.

An excellent book - both as an account of the events leading to the assassination of Heydrich and as a commentary on thecreation of a historical novel. Recommended (in English or French)
