xtava Steam Flat Iron Hair Straightener - 1 Inch Professional Ceramic Flat Iron

For the past year, I have been transitioning from a relaxer and have 4b-4CCCC (DEF, lol ) hair. The crown of my head is very thick and coarse and the line of demarcation can be tough to work with. After having worn braids for the last two months, I was a little apprehensive on wearing my hair down and was NOT looking forward to trying to tackle this hair. After washing and blow-drying my hair- it was stiff but fairly straight. It reminded me of a ponytail that my mom used to do with my hair when I was like in the 4th grade.I didn't have much faith in the product- hence the splurging of the $10 iron- but decided to try it anyway. Despite the iron coming with a pipet for water, I just turned the faucet on to a drip and filled it that way with water, which worked fine. I section a smalled part of my hair and flat ironed it. I pulled it through my hair a bit too slowly which caused my hair to get a bit wet (more so damp) but it was actually straight. I tried to do this first section doing the chase method with another product that I bought to help hold my hair as I flat ironed it- but it was too cumbersome and the other product did not work well.I tried another section still using the chase method but this time with a brush....OHHHH MG :)I loved it! My hair was so soft and the only product that I used was a tresseme thermal heat protectant. I did each quadrant of my hair and the more that I worked through my hair the more I loved it and the easier and faster the process became. I did not use any other heating tools and left my hair straight for the day.After getting the hang of it- I literally only did one pass on each section, with the exception of my crown area which needed 2 in some spots for my roots. By this time I called my sister on Facetime to share with her and show her- we were both amazed!.As the day progressed, my hair didn't really frizz but it did poof up but the amazing thing was that my hair (roots) did not revert back with the Memphis heat. I did end up pulling the top back while leaving the back part down. My hair remained soft and pretty straight for the day. I wrapped it at night and this morning it looks good. As I said I am transitioning from a relaxer with hair that is just past my shoulders- I was really pleasantly surprised and delighted to find something that will make my journey a bit easier as I rotate styles.

I have bought four different steaming straighteners over the last three years. The best one so far was the most expensive one, the Redken Steam Infusion, which is ridiculously expensive, but very good.Then I stumbled across the xtava. I wasn't really looking to get yet another steaming straighter since I was quite happy with my Redken, but the price and the ratings made me curious. Plus I needed one to bring for travel. The Redken is NOT easy to schlepp, trust me!So, I ordered the xtava - and was amazed! Wow!First off, the packaging was very nice, showing attention to detail.Second, the added heating glove and the dripper (!) is a huge bonus, especially the dropper since it's very hard otherwise to get water into the water tank.Third, the amount of steam that the xtava pushes out is impressive and it's the steam that makes the whole difference.Fourth, it's light and very easy to use.For you ladies who never have used one of these steaming straighteners: please get one! It will save your hair. I have natural big tingly curls and I love my curls, but I also love to straighten my hair. My stylist who I have been going to for over ten years has even told me that since I started using a steaming straightener three years ago, my hair is healthier than ever. Before that, I wouldn't go near a straightener. I go to a special "fancy" salon in NYC for curly hair bc they know how to cut my curls. My hair is always beautiful, never frizzy, nowadays, and it's because I use a steamer like this.The only suggestion/wish I have for the next model of xtava is that it comes with an attachable comb. That will make it perfect!Thank you for a great product! I'm ordering one more to have at my boyfriends place!

Been using this for a couple weeks now and I don't think I'll be buying anything but Xtava products ever again.I don't wash my hair everyday. I usually use a dry shampoo 4 days a week. This means I either have to pull my hair up or try an tame my mane. This is where the steam function comes in soooo handy. The "bump" we all get after we've had our hair up is easily removed with the steam function. My old straightener - dream on. The reservoir was simple to remove fill and replace. It comes with an eye dropper type device to fill it, but I just placed it under the faucet running low and dried it off with a clean towel afterwards.A lot of straighteners claim they their plates leave your hair soft and undamaged, but not many of them do. I was always getting hair caught in the small crevices of my old straightener, that has not happened at all with this one. And my hair feels soft and fresh unlike my old one where after a day or two of not washing it started to feel a bit like straw.This is the second Xtava tool I've bought, and I'm hooked. The price, the quality, it really can't be beat. You really won't reqret it!
