Comparison of 100% polyester white tees
I want to buy white T-shirts to wear under white dress shirts. I picked out two but the differences between the two were not obvious so I bought one of each:Men's polyester sport t-shirt. (White) (X-Large)Augusta 790A Adult Wicking Softball Tee - White, Extra LargeThis is my comparison in hopes it will help others in selecting a wicking polyester undershirt.First, I should say they are entirely different, primarily in fabric. They are cut almost identically, in a standard T-shirt loose barrel style. The difference in cut is that the Augusta brand has slightly smaller arm holes and arms. The width is almost exactly the same, while the Jerzees is about ½” longer. Both have a printed label. The main difference is in the fabric. The Augusta fabric has the traditional look of a hard, somewhat shiny polyester fabric that you’re probably familiar with. The Jerzees fabric looks and feels remarkably like traditional cotton T-shirt fabric – in fact, if I didn’t know otherwise I’d assume it to be exactly that (I wouldn't know how to tell the difference, other than with a flame test).Maybe more telling is the weight. Each of these are XL size. I washed them before weighing to make sure there were none of the fabric coatings which are sometimes applied to aid in machine handling or to yield a better hand feel or appearance in sales. So these have been washed and dried once:4.7 oz Augusta7.6 oz JerzeesTo tell the truth, I cannot decide which one I like better. I probably won’t know that until I wear them a number of times and then it will mostly come down to comfort. I did ask a friend which she liked better, and she chose the Augusta. I asked what criteria she used in that decision, and she said it looked nicer. Maybe she didn’t like the looks of a shirt that looks just like a T-shirt. My guesses are that the Jerzees, with its more complex and thicker weave, would probably provide a little more insulation for the winter. Conversely, the thinner and flatter weave of the Augusta fabric might be cooler in the summer. It might take me a while to determine if there's actually a noticeable difference.I’m giving both 5 stars because they are as described and look to be well made. I see no problems with either shirt.BTW, and slightly off subject – I’m sure everyone has encountered ring-around-the-collar. I have a very expensive white formal shirt which developed a yellow ring-around-the-collar. I don’t like sending shirts to a laundry … I don’t know what they do but laundered shirts shrink, come back with cracked buttons, and don’t last very long – not a good way to treat a very nice expensive shirt. I don’t think the laundries have any special trick to remove the ring anyway. I was tired of my good shirts being ruined with a non-removable ring. Bleach doesn’t help a bit. So I set out to research the cause so maybe I’d have a chance of figuring out how to remove it. I found out that it is simply skin oil, which accounts for the yellow color. As you would expect, bleach isn’t going to make yellow oil colorless. The only solution is to remove the oil, so that means attempting the difficult task of removing oil from fabric. For a common household product, Dawn detergent seems to be the best – that’s what is used to remove nasty oil spills from unfortunate birds (assumedly without damage). I mixed up a small jar of half Dawn and half water, then using an old soft toothbrush, gently scrubbed the solution into the ring. Let it sit for a few minutes before washing normally. Depending on how bad the ring is, you may have to treat/wash/repeat a few times. Using this technique I was able to almost completely remove the ring from several expensive white shirts I was too embarrassed to wear anymore. I was able to put them, and the formal shirt, back into my active wardrobe. Taking a hint from this, I now try to prevent the ring in the first place by making sure to scrub my neck especially well in the shower to remove as much skin oil as possible before donning a white shirt.

Already fraying after 1 use and wash
I bought 2 of these to start running with. Once delivered, the fit and feel was good and they performed as needed but even though I ordered 2 in the same purchase from Augusta, 1 was tag less and the other had a tag. I thought that was strange but I continued to use them regardless and just removed the tag. After a couple weeks I decided to buy 4 more, again since the fit and feel were good and they definitely helped with wicking sweat. Again in the same order, half arrived with tags and the others were tag less, so I removed the tags and started to use them after a wash. After 1 week of wearing and washing (1 time each) and following the washing instructions, one of the tagged shirts has now started to fray. I don't see any fraying in the others but after 1 use and 1 wash, quality control is definitely questionable.

Horrible fabric. Very Itchy
I made the mistake of ordering two of these shirts before learning what poor quality they are. In my experience, there are 2 types of "moisture wicking" clothing... the kind that feels smooth and cooling when you wear it, and the kind that feels like cheap scratchy polyester. Unfortunately, this is the latter. The material that these shirts are made of may be water proof, but it's virtually unwearable. It makes my skin itch everywhere it touches (shoulders, neck, waistline). For the price, I thought it was worth the risk, but from now on, I will stick to known brands like Under Armor, Nike, and RBX when ordering moisture wicking clothes online. Save the no-name brands for Marshall's and TJ Max where you can feel the fabric before buying.

Just what the doctor ordered!
I'm in law enforcement, and wearing a t-shirt under the uniform shirt and kevlar vest is a must! This shirt is awesome! Nice and cool, and moisture wicking! Fits perfectly, so it doesn't come untucked! Don't be fooled by the name brands out there! I've had under armour shirts, and sure, they're NAME BRAND, but this shirt does the same exact job!!! There's just no Under Armour logo on it, which nobody would see anyway, under my vest and uniform shirt! I love these shirts, and will definitely buy more when these "5" wear out! You just can't beat the price! Anyone in law enforcement would know, we cops are cheap, and when we can save money, and still be comfortable in our uniforms, there's no stopping us! lol I'm 6'-1", 250lbs, with a bit of a gut, and the XXL fits perfect!

Poor Quality Control by Augusta
Let me start by saying that I've purchased Augusta shirts in the past without issue but with this most recent order, the ball was dropped. I work outside so I was looking for clothing that was quick drying since the company issued shirts are made of cotton which get downright sticky and wet from sweat and on a hot day. I ordered three of the olive green shirts, all of which have thread coming out of one area or another after only a few uses and washings. One of the shirts was driving me completely nuts for a while since the thread that was coming out kept brushing the back of my neck making it feel like something was crawling on me. Working outside, you don't know if it could be a tick or other kind of biting insect/arachnid so it got a bit frustrating until I found out it was the thread from the shirt. Sadly, poor quality control on the part of Augusta, especially after previously purchasing their brand shirts and putting them through the ringer without issue. The good...they fit nicely. I'm 5'10" and around 180LBS and can usually fit into a large but opted for the XL because I prefer a more loose fit to allow for flexibility. They're comfortable enough for the outdoor work I do and dry quickly on those hot days when getting sweaty. These are the only reasons they're getting three stars, otherwise, it would have been a one star review due to lack of quality. If a two and a half star review were possible, that's where it would be.I've requested replacement shirts which are free of charge (return is free as well). Should the new shirts be any better quality than the three I'm currently returning, I'll update this review accordingly.
