Amazing book, will last GENERATIONS!
Ok so I'm NEW to the artwork of Bosch aaaaand this book is AMAZING,FANTASTIC, and WONDERFUL and I've ONLY browsed through it on my first day of ownership. As I was glancing it over I could tell this book WILL CLEARLY OUT LIVE ME! No joke from the dust jacket, which is kinda like a canvas type material and NOT a regular Ol' dust cover, to the noticeably THIIIICK pages with Bosch's exquisite artwork....all in all just BUY IT this will be a GEM to own and cherish quite literally the rest of your life, and if taken care of well, is easily a generational hand down book.

Stunning: this is how to do Bosch
I've purchased my share of Taschen books over the years so I was concerned that this wouldn't be up to the standards of other art book publishers. Once I read a few of the reviews here at Amazon I felt a little better so I placed my order. The other reviews are correct: this is an amazing book.Starting with the outside... its double boxed for protection (mine was shipped in yet another box, something Amazon hasn't been so great about in recent years). The inside printed box, which is basically the same as the cover, is a carrying case making it look almost like a board game. I wouldn't carry it around with the handle for any length of time but its a nice touch and pretty much guarantees that the book inside is well protected. The dust jacket is a nice, thick, textured piece with excellent gold lettering. The printing is excellentThe book itself is printed in Italy (a good sign, at least in my opinion) and is semi-gloss which works well. The various fold out panels are well done. I'm not typically wild about fold out inserts but for Bosch is really is important to see the work in the largest size possible.Overall the book is huge (I forget the term, something like super folio?) so its not something you're going to casually leaf through on your lap. It needs a table but view really is worth this climb in this case. This large format is exactly correct for the detail presented in Bosch paintings. For someone who just enjoys great graphics publishing or simply plain gorgeous books I think this is a must purchase item, especially at $100+ (Amazon's current price). I've purchased comparable quality books for more money so this, to me, is good deal.I've only seen one or two Bosch paintings in person but its clear that you need to take the whole painting into view and you also need the close-up view for the details. With a lot of artists too many close-up views can be annoying if you're not someone into technique. In this case the detailed views are 100% required. This book delivers on all fronts. Most importantly I'm thrilled that a book of this quality and a book this inventive can still find a market these days. It's a venture that I'm happy to support. Excellent job Taschen - this makes up for the many poorly printed volumes I've purchased from you over the years.

Best of the Best
Its Taschen, its the XXL series, it doesn't get any better. This book is beautiful and the full fold out of the Garden is truly amazing. Exceeded my expectations and they were already high. Get it, even if your just a little curious about Bosch.

XXL Version - Awesome but difficult to handle
As I read all the reviews, it is apparent that the various versions of this fine book are all mixed together by Amazon. This is a review of the Folio size 16 x 12 version weighing more than 10 pounds and clearly labeled as XXL. If you love Bosch this is the version to get especially with favorable discounting. It comes in a beautiful storage box. But beware of retailers shipping this box without extra protection since it is not sufficient to protect the heavy book. Mine was shipped unprotected in a large envelope resulting in damage to a corner of the box and a little wrinkle to the spine. With partial refund I got this masterpiece for $70. The presentation is outstanding on thick glossy paper, with impressive fold outs of key works, which you will not see in smaller editions. However as large as it is the font is still small; I wonder if it is even readable in the smaller editions. And the choice of gold font color on black background is perplexing. Thankfully the majority is black font color on white. It is impossible to read on a lap desk with incline due to weight. And it is unrealistic to read even on a flat table. Thus I have it on a desk with a few books behind it to prop it up on an angle. Bosch is an important artist whose work deserves to be examined in person, yet you can never get close enough in the museums of the world to fully appreciate these surrealistic masterpieces. This volume makes it accessible and Fischer’s narrative is highly readable.

500 years ago, one guy stood out
20 paintings and 8 drawings and you could imagine a truth and seek the truth and meanings in his images for the rest of you life. Okay, abstract stuff makes me feel so MODERN and goes great over the couch and you listen to the artist say "I prefer to be abstract to allow the viewer to interpret it as they will"; well, hell, I'm an artist and let's go a little deeper than that old standby excuse for making interesting and textural non-figurative paintings, man. If you are allegorical , historical, political in ways that are not in your face and may have more than one interpretation then your mind is in genuine DEPTH mode; not in seeing ink blots and bunny rabbits in cloud shapes. Study your art history a little. Stop pretending you've got an great EYE; yeah, we all know you like what you like....who doesn't. But before throwing the bull at the next cocktail party, look into the History of Art just a little and you may someday actually be able to distinguish something that will stand the test of time from something merely NEW or DIFFERENT. Small percentage will be worth its salt in the long run. You don't have to become a snob. Look at what a guy like Bosch was able to say with a few words.

INSANE BOOK
I didn’t expect it to be so XL 😂 it’s even better than the photo. The font used, the details of the book and the ever-so-famous masterpiece right in the center of the book… I’m obsessed. It’s definitely worth the price. Bosch was also a religious figure if im not mistaken hence that lifestyle inspiring his work. I’m Christian so this book makes you see A LOT. Again, well worth it.

Obra inacreditável
Espetacular.
