Your JC Collection Could Stop Here
GPB & HF - Possibly two of the finest films that Cusack has ever done - with the exception of that first solo role for Rob Reiner in "The Sure Thing." And even then, right from the beginning, had he stopped after the TST, that could have stood alone on its own merit as one of his top 5. After 40 odd years of films - good & bad, I have to say that these two shine in their own special light because John had a hand in their development. In fact - many hands - writing, editing, producing, acting - he's always been hands-on from the get-go. He's just not some clueless kid, some manscaped pretty boy from the 80's. He's not making stupid atkins diet food ads on t.v. just to make a buck. He's someone who has studied his craft over all these years - saved up the cashola to do stuff he REALLY wants to do - for the sake of art - for the sake of the craft. He's run the Hollywood rat race and survived - he has not emerged from the star on the sidewalk scarless or without damage but stronger all in the same. The beauty of Cusack in these two films is that he makes the supporting cast look good. In certain films, the supportive role often walks away with all of the credit. Cusack takes a bow and steps back. It's that humility that keeps you coming back for more. Anyone who has ever foolishly commented that they never see the "real character" in any of John's films probably hasn't gotten over the 80's. If you look deeply enough and long enough, you see the story within the story. There's a whole lot more to the man than just the actor. I can't wait to see what's in store for the next chapter of his life. Stay tuned, man.

Older movie
Library didn't have it and I wanted to watch it. So 2 for 1 price worked for me.

I'm reviewing the product, not the movie.
I recently purchased this two-movies-in-one-package deal because I can't believe how inexpensive DVDs are becoming in the age of instant digital media (right now, not ALL movies are available on demand so I'd rather purchase these two inexpensive flicks for one low price). It's amazing. I'm not much a collector of movies but I do own some flicks that I love watching time and again. My biggest concern was whether these two movies on DVD were true Widescreen and would play correctly on my TV. Many of the reviews here reviewed the movie but not much on the product, that is the DVD itself. High Fidelity worked great on my 1080P HD TV. No problem there. However, the Grosse Point Blank DVD, I had to select a different picture size on the television in order for it to play "normally" that is the image isn't stretched out one way or another. If I played the Grosse Point Blank DVD on an analog TV I think it would play just fine and appear like a true widescreen/letterbox format. I've had this problem before with some of my exercise DVDs.For me it's no big deal, even though I wish I didn't have to change the settings on my TV. Aside from this little hiccup, the picture quality is great, the sound is great, the discs were spotless, service was excellent. I don't know what else to say except that High Fidelity plays great on modern HDTVs and Grosse Point Blank didn't quite exactly. It is widescreen but you see that on an analog TV, if this makes any sense.

A great actor, and I don't care WHAT his personal life is like.
I've kinda always been a fan of JC. And, these 2 movies together is just about as good as it gets. GROSS POINTE BLANK has always been one of my favorites, where JC acts extremely well as a hitman (with a personal life) -- always one of my favorites. Then, a few years later he does HIGH FIDELITY. Again, very professionally, and with some really fine music (I'm a music aficionado), I'm listening to AZ music in my buds right now....anyhow, the culmination of these 2 movies in one little package was PERFECT. I've already watched both and will do so again, since I always watch my favorite movies (with music or not) more than just once. I think JC is really great, as was his cast in these 2 movies. Just great.

Recommended by friends, and now recommended to you.
John Cusack at his understated best. These are both masterworks...and funny. You can have a funny masterwork, OK? It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom.

Grosse Pointe Blank
A great romantic comedy shoot 'em up with outstanding performances by "everyman" John Cusack and Dan Ackroyd. Hired assassins wanting to form a union? WOW! Who came up with that idea?A fine 2 hrs of entertainment.
