Pain to install and very loud after only a few months light use.
This unit functioned properly for about 4 months and now it is very loud. So loud in fact that I am going to buy a new case to get a more reliable and quiet fan. Unit underwent very light use in a very climate controlled environment. I have indeed verified that there's no hair or anything caught in the fan also... Throughout this process I'm going to lose power over ethernet functionality, which is part of the reason I bought this item in the first place... Because, I am not going to purchase something like this after the experience I just had with this one. I should also mention that the connection posts needed to be painstakingly and gently cut, with side-cutters, so that they could fit into a case that was specifically designed for Poe hats of this form factor... So maybe if you NEED power over ethernet splurge a little bit and get a more reliable name...?

Disappointing, Doesn't Fit
This review is for the "(2021 New Version) Official Raspberry Pi POE+ HAT", not the other 3rd party options offered under this same listing. It works OK, and it's great that it can deliver more power than the original version, supporting more demanding loads. It's also great that Raspberry Pi came up with this new design to address supply chain issues for the original version. But it's a real surprise and disappointment that this official product does NOT fit the official Model 3 and Model 4 cases, as did the prior version. Specifically, the HAT is missing the notch along one edge that provides clearance for latching the top and bottom pieces of the case together. Also, the fan screws are too long and one of them must be cut to get the HAT completely seated without it hitting the camera port.In researching these problems after purchase, I found information about a third flaw with a warning that the Pi should NOT be powered via USB while this HAT is installed because it will back-feed voltage onto the HAT.It's pretty amazing that Raspberry Pi released this new POE+ HAT with so many design flaws. Buyer beware, you will need to find a suitable case from a third party, and make sure your application will be powered via POE 100% of the time.

Onboard Display Doesnt Work
The OnBoard display does not work. I contacted the company, and theyjust told me to read the wiki. The wiki has a hole bunch of commands needed to make it work, but the commands do not work at all. It doesnt state what the pre-requisite’s are or any troubleshooting information, and it uses wiringpi which is decommissioned, and no longer in use. So its a complete waste of money.

Works great for Pi-KVM
I was looking for a POE HAT to use with Pi-KVM. Look no further. Put the hat and Pi inside a HiPi berry case and you've got a working Pi-KVM that is powered by POE switch. Make sure you isolate 5V on the usb-a connector (tape or snip cable) of the usb-c to -a cable connected to target PC, so as not to backpower the pi or target PC. I use usb hdmi loop capture to create a working physical/remote capable pi-kvm console. It works on both pi 4 and pi zero. Obviously, the POE part won't work on the zero, but at least I know the led and fan works with it.

Had to reinstall OS to get it to work
Installation of the offical POE+ hat was easy. However, when I turned my Pi back on the fan would spin quick and then stop and it would not kick back on (even though the internal temperature was 70+ C).After an exhaustive search of the Pi forums and other websites and messing with the config file, I came across the solution that fixed my issue. Wipe the Pi, reinstall whatever OS your using, UPDATE it via the command line, and then install whatever you're using the Pi for. This made the fan start to work as it's supposed to. Kicks on at low speed at 40 C and steps the speed up as the temperature gets hotter. My temperature is sitting at 38-40 C now instead of climbing into the 70s.As I said, the POE+ hat installation was easy. The Pi powered on as soon as I plugged my network cable in (good bye extra power cord) and everything has been working as expected (once the OS was re-installed). The fan is pretty quiet at low speeds but does make a god aweful noise at full speed. However, my temps don't get to that point anymore.Totally recommend this product for anyone looking to get POE. 4 stars only because the documentation with the hat and on the offical Pi site is horrible about explaining anything other than how to attach it to the Pi.
