quick and tough, but be agressive
I have two long pathways, one in the middle of star grass (Cynodon nlemfuensis) and one in the middle of st. augustine. I've been using it for edging both, recently installed and with bits of cement still stuck to the sides, for over 6 months. The edges are now clear along with a 1/4 perfectly clean gap between the grass and the concrete. To note: I only do this once a month, and both grasses are quite aggressive so they throw runners into the path. The only trick here is to be aggressive as well, and the 972 can definitely handle it. Set it on high and start the tool before plunging, then ride de border. The blades are MEANT to scratch the sides slightly and stay fairly dull, any sharpness would be killed in seconds so don't bother. Run along the edge, THEN reverse at a slightly different angle to widen the gap just a tiny bit, this will also clean your line, especially if the soil has some moisture.Try to use it when the soil is relatively dry, else you'll get some mud and compressed grass stuck in the cover, even more so if you don't do the reverse thing after your first pass. If it does, get a stick or a piece or rebar, though wood would probably be better, and go at it from the back below the cover, cleans up quickly, then continue. The sound and vibration will tell you if there's a clog in there way before the tool stops, so use the warning to clean it up and don't wait for it to "go away on its own"

Great product!
Simple to install on my DeWalt string trimmer power head! Does a great job on lawn. Battery life is great! BUT, she’s no light weight! You’ll get your exercise running this beast!

Dewalt Edger Attachment
I purchased this to add to a Dewalt 60V string trimmer that I had purchased (DCST972) and It works perfectly. It fits my DCST972 unit perfectly, and is easy to swap with the trimmer head. It is also easy to set the blade depth and it seems to have more than enough power to cut a nice edge along the driveway. There was a little dirt build up after the edging was completed due to some rain earlier and moist soil, but it was easily scraped away. I can't speak to the durability of this unit, but if I take care of it it should work fine for a long time.

Disengages from Motor Shaft When Using in Tough Soil
When edging where soil is tough and some stones exist, the edger creates heavy torque onto the long motor shaft. The excessive torque sometimes causing the edger shaft to disengage from the DeWalt DCST972X1 60 V String Trimmer motor shaft. Snap-in coupling button is forced to disengage. Thus, the product is not used. Maybe sometime when good edging is accomplished with a hand tool this edger may be able to be used without any dis-engaging.

Amazing
Wow. What do I do with my old corded B&D edger. This beast is amazing. Cuts deeper, faster, and lighter than my old edger. When my 11 year old edger started slowing down, I saw this on sale and figured why not. I’m happy with the weed eater attachment and I like the pole saw attachment too, but this goes and takes it to another lvl. It makes edging easy and enjoyable. Turn the power setting to low because this will throw dirt and rocks like the Tasmanian devil. If you want to consolidate your yard tools into one package you have to add this.

This thing is a beast!
I see this more as a "lawn saw" than an edger. It tackles edging jobs that would be extremely difficult otherwise. I've uncovered curbs that were completely covered over with 2" of dirt. In fact, I've already used it to edge up and down my entire block -- both sides!Yesterday a chunk broke off the plastic shroud, but that was to be expected considering how much abuse I was giving it. It's actually easier to use now because that particular part of the shroud was keeping the edger from cutting deeper.
