Practical and Informative
This is a very well-written reference book. The topics are supported by respected scientific research and there is an impressive reference bibliography. The book includes interesting case studies, extensive essential oil profiles on frequently used essential oils and suggestions for how to add other oils for a synergistic effect. There is also an expanded practice section with abbreviated profiles of less commonly used oils that could be added to make synergistic blends for optimal results. I'm glad I picked this one up. I will be referring to it often.

Consider it a must-have, esp. for novices
This is a very good book. Well-researched, well written, well-organized. Rhind gives a good overview on the history, philosophy, and science of synergistic blending of essential oils, as well as personal insights and tips. While those looking for recipes will be disappointed, there are many tips on what to combine, and enough information is given about synergy and blending that people who actually want to learn about the therapeutic application of essential oils will be able to construct useful recipes on their own. I also like that Rhind gives a good rundown on the therapeutic application of the "common", well-known perfume oils like rose and neroli. The primary drawback of this book doesn't have to do with the content but rather the formatting of the Kindle version...the extensive list of oils in Chapters 14 & 15, where she breaks down the constituents and applications, should be hyperlinked in the table of contents (TOC) for easier navigation. There are a few other minor flaws in the Kindle formatting throughout the book, but that's the most glaring. The excellent indexes are well hyperlinked, however, even if that doesn't quite make up for lack of hyperlinks in the TOC.All in all I consider this a must-have, not only for good info on synergy and blending, but also because the information on the therapeutics of individual oils is excellent. I intend to buy in hard-copy, as well.

Scientific and technical
This book is very technical and scientific. Highly recommend it if that is your interest.

Wasn't What I Needed - THIS FEEDBACK RETRACTED & I WILL TELL YOU WHY
I bought this book specifically because I wanted to learn which oils and more importantly, which constituents blend with others for the maximum therapeutic benefit. I've already graduated aromatherapy and chemistry, now I wanted to get to the details of therapeutics and, well, as this book puts it, synergies............ This book barely covers that at all and I'm so disappointed as it is on several recommended reading lists. This book covers everything I've learned so far - nothing new; and it's incredibly boring reading. It does not tell me anything about blending constituents or even oils for that matter..........so disappointed and, judging by the title, misled.UPDATE: I entered this feedback after reading the first 50 or so pages of the book. I found it extremely boring and difficult to stay with. Then I jumped into the "meat" of the book when I needed to treat a case of ringworm. Not only does she give the pathology of conditions, she gives oils that treat them as well as constituents along with the research. This is done for MANY conditions. I regret giving that feedback now as I see that with her help, I treated a case of ringworm that had been plaguing a client for YEARS. Sorry about that Jennifer. I LOVE your book and as others say, will refer to it for years and years to come.
