French Lessons: The Art of Living and Loving Well!

A confection of a book - as delicate and life-changing as a beautiful lingerie set :)
This book was an absolute delight to read. I felt cosseted and inspired, and like I was strolling the streets of Paris alongside the two main characters. Funnily enough, I accidently bought this book when meaning to download a sample. This is the first time this has ever happened to me, but I can't help but think that my click was divinely guided, as I loved this book to pieces. From reading it I am reinspired to be my most elegant and Parisian self, and I especially enjoyed the recap of each chapter at the end of the book. The author provides a thought provoking list of questions which I will enjoy delving into in my journal. I will be enjoying this book more than once, I know that. Thank you, Elizabeth, for a wonderful addition to my French Chic library. ~Fiona, howtobechic.com~

Basically this book gives ideas about living well. And the ideas are lovely reminders to practice civility. In our world, on social media, in our politics, people are quite raw when expressing ideas. It seems to me we need reminders about ideas expressed in this book. The ideas are worth the read.I gave the book three stars more for the way the book is structured. The ideas are expressed in conversations between an older, world savvy, refined French woman and a younger American woman trying to sort out her life while temporarily living in Paris. The author writes so that you feelyourself in the rarefied environment of a wise woman, of means, wife of a diplomat but who is no shrinking violet. The problem is, the story getsboring and I found myself skipping to the ideas the author wished to convey and skipping the in betweens. I know that in France the little dogs go everywhere, but I've never been fond of it there and I'm not fond of it here. So that's it from me: the ideas about civility are very good; the story part, meh.

What a french friend taught her
A gentle way to help describe the different approaches and attitudes french women have towards life. A quick read. A light read.

Tres Bien!
I really enjoyed this book. I appreciated the inspiration it gave to live well and to be true to yourself in simple (how could it be otherwise?) feasible ways. Isn't it funny how books find you when you need them the most? That's how this book was for me. A quick, interesting, uplifting read!

This is an easy, enjoyable read if you enjoy Paris and the Grench lifestyle. However, the author tosses in far too many needless French phrases, some of which it seemed that the author was trying a little too hard. In one chapter it felt like every sentence included the phrases "ma cherie". A little distracting

It is a book of fiction but full of life lessons
This book really is about living and loving well. The chapter on forgiveness was especially profound and gave me a different perspective. A good bed side read!

Short, sketchy, but still a good read
I enjoyed it, but it was short and sketchy. It was more like a very long short story than a real novel. It was interesting, and made some good points about the art of living well, however.

A Beautiful Journey
French Lessons welcomed me into the lives of two special people who shared heartfelt experiences about life and people. Throughout the book I would pause, absorbing the message the author was expressing. You can't help but reflect on your own journey through life. Two thumbs up to E.J. for sharing a book that offers inspiration and confidence to others.

A charming read, full of thoughtful ideas
I loved this book, gave it to my granddaughter to take to Paris and immediately bought a second one to give to a friend. It is a charming book about how to always use good manners, how to deal with awkward social situations without feeling foolish and how to always bring out the best in other people. Thoughtful life tips from a French Fairy Godmother!

Very chic little book
I loved this book. The author writes with such warmth about my favourite subject. However the lovely story woven around the lessons elevated it beyond the usual French chic books.
