Can I use this drain with s garage disposal?

Sorry, the strainer cannot work with garage disposal.

Does the stopper fit with the basket inside or does the basket need to be removed before plugging in the stopper?

The stopper fits with basket inside and makes a nice close to even bottom of sink

Will this work on a thick Shaw fire clay sink?

This model may have difficulty fitting in thick fireclay sink, but we have another model NDA0029 that should fit as it has a long screw. In addition, NDA0029 is on sale now, so it's a good deal:)

do i have to use plumbers putty?

No. The foam gasket goes on the top, and the rubber gasket on the underside of the sink.
