Christian Themes in Indian Art: From the Mogul Times till Today

GREAT Resource with heartbreaking binding!
This may well be a defining work on the theme of Indian Christian art. The book shows that Christian themes, especially the figure of Jesus had immense fascination for Indian artists, through last many centuries—not just years, decades or even two hundred years of British presence but many centuries. Christian themes of suffering and redemption, pain and triumph, sacrifice and charity, have become an integral part of Indian aesthetic sensibility. It is a must read for anyone who wishes to understand the mosaic called modern Indian culture and civilisation. All credit to the editors/compilers and even the publishers Manohar. However, the binding was BIG letdown. It came off on day one itself. So do buy it and have the heart to live with a damaged spine. It's still worth it!

Interesting subject
Exhaustive study of a little know subject, lavishly illustrated with good colour plates. Many artists discussed, although more work on the Mughals would have been valuable. An important contribution to Indian art history.
