Doesn't work for 2009 Civic Type-R. i used a pass through connector as well. this didn't help either.

This has so far been great. Fits my 2006 Civic at the back of the radio, plugs into cd changer port. Sounds great and now I finally have an aux in my car. Keep in mind, if your phone doesn’t have a headphone jack you will need a headphone adapter.
