A well written history of parts of the Jesus Movement
David Hoyt was an ultimate insider of the Jesus Movement and was at ground zero in the San Francisco area where and when the movement began. There are some interesting stories about San Francisco and the "Peace and Love" days in the mid sixties and how it devolved into a social nightmare.Hoyt's personal story of salvation, service deception and the loss of his family is a cautionary tale of trusting "Spiritual" sounding leaders. This book adds a lot to the written history of the Jesus Movement and helps to show that it wasn't all sunshine, beaches and Calvary Chapel.

Really inspiring about God's work amongst hippies half a century ago!
My personal story features in this book, along with many others too.Hoyt's book successfully captures the mood of the late 60's counterculture, and contains a wide selection of fascinating, well-researched, eyewitness accounts of young hippy-types encountering Jesus, usually described in their own words. It has an encouragingly global reach, and I was especially thrilled to read many stories from my native Britain. It also includes some important warnings about the lure of cults, both then and now.The bright cover and multitude of visuals enhanced the book greatly in my opinion, as did the quoted Scriptures and earthed Biblical teaching threaded throughout.I was inspired and challenged once again, hearing the story I was part of back in the day. My hope is that "Stop! Hey, What's That Sound?: The 1960's Revolution and The Birth of the Jesus People" will motivate my children and grandchildren to yearn for heaven-sent revival in their own day.Research-wise I have also used this important book as a vital resource for my own related writing project on the impact of the Jesus People Movement on us in Britain.
