Ontario Agilite Chefs Knife

From a customer who really wanted to love this knife
What I love about this knife?- 14C28N Stainless Steel- The profile of this knifeWhy only 2 stars? There is no taper. Neither from the bolster to the tip, nor from the spine to the edge. It's literally a piece of steel that was cut into shape, then was "capped" with an edge at more than 40 degree (20 per side). Because the bevel behind the edge is so thick, you won't be able to use the knife for most of the tasks in the home kitchen. This knife is rather a "machete". I can see hunters use this knife to break down large chuck of meat in the field. But for regular home kitchen, this is not a suitable knife. I don't think "Chef knife" is appropriate to describe this knife. "Butcher knife" is probably a better description.I can not see "in every kitchen there is agilite" as the company advertises at the current state. I do believe, however, with proper grind and taper, this knife can rival any German name brand knife at $100 price range. I would love to see OKC company rework the knife, and I would be more than happy to purchase the knife again.

First impressions, I like it. Thin and light blade, good balance. Great value for the price. I would recommend. I will update based on usage. Full tang. I bought it because of the steel Sandvik 14C28N, USA produced and great reputation of the Ontario Company. I expect this line to do pretty well. IT is a great steel and great value.

Good knife, but it needs work to be great.......
There is a problem with this item....and a solution. The stock material is very much too thin for a knife of this configuration, and it results in a blade that is far too flexible.I shortened the blade and reprofiled it from the spine on a 2" x 72" belt grinder into an 8" slicer. It performs much better that way.The handle is very well done, and the price is fair. Not sure if the disconnect for material to design is on the designer(the incredibly talented Dan Maragni) or on an Ontario executive, but someone made a bad choice. The steel is excellent quality, just too thin.

sort of like a wide fillet knife
Very light weight and flexible, sort of like a wide fillet knife. Compared to a Rada chef knife that is made of 420 SS, the Rada is thicker and a bit stiffer. At around $10 the Rada is a much better buy if you want thin, light, and flexible. Outfitter Country responded to my return request promptly and I will be sending this knife back soon. Good customer service, not a great knife in my opinion.
