R980T 4" Active Bookshelf Speakers - 2.0 Computer Speaker - Powered Studio Monitor (Pair)

I've got these connected to a WiiM Mini, in my kitchen as part of a whole-house audio system. For their size, they deliver warm and punchy audio. Definitely impressed for the price and size. No issues with audio or connection. Easy to connect to the WiiM without any issues.. They aren't so small they're not noticeable, but they fit nicely on some corner countertop and their dark and sleek appearance lets them blend in well.

I think this speaker is amazing for the price!Very easy set up & quality is exceptional! It has a bass tuning control knob. Volume control knob! Size is compact! I used this speaker with a record player that was awesome.Sound quality pristine!Really awesome truly! My gf was so happy & satisfied but then again she came from a victoriola set!My only complaint is the shipping but so much the fault of the company or seller. More so amazon-

I bought my first turntable last week and everyone kept saying to find Edifiers. I kept striking out on Marketplace and eBay, so I hopped over here and noticed how expensive the higher end speakers were. On a whim, chose these and hoped for the best.They look higher quality IRL than in pictures, with a black grainy wood. I hardly have the volume up and you’d almost think I had subwoofers. The bass, stacked vocal lines, and other instruments shine through. If you’re in an apartment, be careful! But if you have a house, you could easily mimic the bodily feeling of a small concert if you blasted these speakers.I was giddy as hell playing my very first vinyl through these speakers and had a dance party alone, lol.Noting that the instructions state to go to the Edifier website, but there are no videos on set-up. The instructions up to a certain point helps, but I needed to go to YouTube to figure out how to connect the passive speaker to the active and turntable. Also had to upgrade to a larger storage set-up the next day, lol. These are the right size for an apartment or small house.Since I’m a newbie, these will be perfect for a while, but if I keep up with the hobby long-term, I’ll upgrade to a higher end Edifier.10/10 worth it.

As a college musician on a very tight budget, it's important to get the most equipment I can for each dollar. I was also considering the Mackie CR3 monitors, so here's what the decision came down to:+ 4" speaker+ 30% less expensive+ Front ported bass- Less stylish- Not a "real" reference monitorThe larger speaker is a big plus for improved bass response, while the front port makes the speakers less reliant on room conditioning and placement than a rear port. Additionally, the $65 price point is extremely appealing when most all the better monitors start at $100 and up.Sound quality is good - if you're getting these as an upgrade for your laptop speakers, it's a world of difference, of course. In my case, I was upgrading from the sub-$20 Amazon speakers, which are decent for the price, although I have several cheap 2.1 systems at home as well. Compared to the small USB speakers, the bass is an enormous improvement, with a broad range of sounds you didn't even hear before... but along with that seems to have come a loss of the focused clarity I enjoyed from the small speakers.The speakers are fairly high quality - subtle details and breathing in songs becomes more noticeable, and a broad range of sounds is handled well. Bass is acceptably punchy, highs aren't shrill.One thing about these speakers is they don't go as loud as I expected - they're as loud as you'll probably need from a desktop set, I hope, but they don't really have headroom for blasting. This is fine for most situations, but I found they had to be fully cranked to just passably do the job with an electronic drum set.Now the question audiophiles are wondering - is it a real reference monitor, suitable for studio work? Well... not really, no. It doesn't have the defined and clear midrange and highs that I was hoping for, and the bass, while good, is a little bit muffled. There's a nice bass adjustment knob to control this, but then there goes your "flat" frequency response. Don't get me wrong, these are nice speakers, and I will be using them for some studio work, but they're not really comparable to $200+ reference monitors for studio work.Overall, I'd recommend these speakers to anyone on a tight budget looking for some nice quality speakers for everyday work, including limited music/studio work. They're well-rounded and well built, and I don't think you can do much better in the $50-$100 range. However, if you're an audiophile looking for audiophile quality, be prepared to shell out a couple times as much for a flatter response and higher headroom.

If you're looking for a set of 2.0, no-nonsense, mid-range computer speakers with great sound, this is the set for you.If you are a 20 year CTS-I certified veteran of the A/V industry looking for a set of "monitors", you may want to re-evaluate your pricing expectations, or adopt the philosophy that the monitors you use should be similar to what your target audience will probably have... low to mid-range speakers.For everyone else, this speaker will very likely fit the bill. They don't come with a remote that only adds to the cost of the speaker set and will end up unused in a drawer. They sound much better than that $12 beige plastic speaker set you found at a yard sale or have had laying around since the 90s. They have a reasonable low-end even though they don't come with a large box containing a 6 inch "subwoofer" you have to stash somewhere while also connecting five different cables to it. The cabling is simple, with an audio cable connecting your computer to one speaker, and then standard speaker wire is connected from the first speaker to the second. There is no wall wart transformer; a standard two prong power cable comes from the first speaker and easily fits in your crowded power strip that is crammed behind your desk. The speakers are a little bigger than what you'll find in the typical Wally World or Bullseye electronics department, but the speaker cabinets provide precious resonance space necessary to give you that better low end.The only issue I've seen is that you CAN overdrive these speakers if you have the volume maxed on both your audio source and the speakers themselves. Since the volume knob is hidden on the back of the first speaker, the best thing to do is to max your audio source volume, and then adjust the speaker volume knob down from max until the distortion stops. Then, always adjust the source volume and leave the volume knob alone.I am very satisfied with this speaker set.

Paired them with my Audio Technica turntable and they have an amazing sound for smaller side speakers. They look great! Adjustable bass and volume for when you want those specific records to pack a punch. I’d say they’re best suited for a small-medium home if you want the sound to carry. If you’re trying to drown out all other sounds, these speakers are not for you.

A close friend bought these speakers a couple of weeks ago and the sound was clearly superior to his old Edifier set of speakers so I ordered a pair immediately for myself. Me and my wife listened to music for two hours after receiving them and were blown away how great they sound. The crisp higher end sounds are far superior to the older Edifier set and for us they're plenty loud without distortion. I highly recommend these new ones and $100 is a great bargain price.

These things rock. Super easy to set up and sound excellent with my turntable. Lots of bass - I didn't have to touch the bass knob, it's perfect in the middle

I just hooked these R980T's up and played Benassi - Love is Gonna Save Us which I find to my ears a good test for bass and overall responsiveness and these speakers (for the money) are a fantastic value. I bought these as a replacement for a pair of Creative Gigaworks T20's (the left speaker was DOA). What are the points of the comparison between those two speakers? Well, they worked right out of the box, so that's one for the Edifiers. They are substantially heavier and made with real wood versus plastic for the T20's. They are substantially wider and deeper which probably explains some of the weight. They sound incredible for $100 speakers ($Cdn) it's almost hard to believe they are that cheap. Pretty good highs and mids and the bass is only ok, but together they sound very pleasant to the ears. I have some very nice atmos speakers for a home entertainment system along with a high-end sub that provides a sort of auditory-ecstasy, and of course, these speakers don't sound as good as that....but these are only $100. They do not have knobs for volume, bass, and power on the front which is a bit of a bummer for me, but I think that I will get used to using the computer volume control. I would recommend these to a friend in a heartbeat, in particular for a bedroom or even a small living room as they can fill a decent sized room with sound. They are super impressive bookshelf speakers. If you have $100Cdn (or much less in $US) then can't go wrong with these.

for the price you can not go wrong, loud, clear and with good baseonly negative thing is the volume control is on the back of them BUT i just use the windows volume control on my PC.

Only for desktop. Don't expect to use TV home theaters

These speakers work great. I was worried the 12 W per speaker might not be enough, but it booms plenty. They made some questionable choices in the design, like how they have two connections for the red/white RCA cords, but no connections for an auxiliary (headphone) cord, which is pretty standard for desktop computers, laptops, monitors, and phones. That's not a big deal though because they include a 3.5 mm to RCA adapter cord in the box. They also include an RCA to RCA cord, and some standard speaker wire that goes from your right speaker to the left speaker. I also thought it was strange that you can't toggle between the two inputs. If you connect your phone to one input and your desktop computer to the other, rather than selecting which one you want to hear, it just plays both simultaneously. I suppose that 'feature' might be useful to some people, but I don't see myself using it. I like how you can control the bass and volume (I set the speaker volume to max and use my PC's volume settings to adjust it on the fly), and how the grills come off so you can see the sound cones if you want. I paid $110 + tax for the speakers, so they aren't cheap, but you're getting a quality product here, so I feel I got my money's worth.
